Florida Football: Top Five Things Will Muschamp Must Do at Florida

Larry BurtonMar 15, 2011

Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) With Florida's 8-5 record last season, a record many thought was impossible to exist under an Urban Meyer coached team stocked with years top five recruiting classes, the team and fans were left flat and the feeling of invicibility was gone.

Though the season started out as projected, with blowout wins against the creme puffs of Miami, who fired their coach at the end of the season, South Florida, Tennessee, still shell shocked, and Kentucky with a new coach, things just didn't appear right despite the lopsided wins.

The fifth game of the season confirmed it when Alabama not just beat them, but humiliated them and all but sent them home in little girl girl's dresses. That 31-6 score could have been much worse if Saban had allowed the team to keep going, but he was clearly trying to stop the carnage.

Then came losses to LSU and then Urban's former pupil, Dan Mullen, beat his old boss with his new Mississippi State Bulldogs. In that game, the "Mighty" Gators only scored only seven points. The next week, they had to go to overtime to beat the worst Georgia team in many years.

Clearly, the Gators were no longer "Mighty" and the swagger was gone from the team.

So what are the five most important things new head coach Will Muschamp must do to restore the swagger and make the Gators a powershouse again.

1. Throw away Urban Meyer's offense. It was a joke running the Tebow offense without Tebow. You have a pro style quarterback who needs to act like a pro style quarterback. The old offense was ridiculously predictable, at the Alabama game I remarked to a Florida journalist in the press box, the next play will be a jump pass. Sure enough as the team took to the line Kirby Smart started jumping up and down signaling to the defense, "Jump Pass" and I'm sure we weren't the only two who thought that.

Sure enough, they threw the jump pass and it was intercepted. That is just one example of how bad Florida's offense was at times because of the reluctance to let the Tebow era end.

2. Get the Swagger back. Muschamp needs to remind players that last year was an anomoly. That they in fact ARE the "Mighty Gators" and they can impose their will on any team.

Four easy wins to start the season will have them 4-0 like last year and maybe build their confidence up before playing Alabama again at home.

3. Use Revenge! Last year Alabama yanked their pants down and spanked them in front of a national television audiance. This year they come to the
