2011 Florida State Football: Which Recruits Could Start in 2011?

Edwin WeathersbyMar 10, 2011

Now, I know I said before that Alabama signed arguably the top recruiting class in 2011. Arguably comes from the good folks of Tallahassee, as FSU and its supporters will tell you they indeed signed the top class. Only time will tell, but we should be able to conclude who had the top class in about three to four years.

Florida State has a slew of who's who-type players coming to the roster and all of the incoming recruits will be looking to take a starting job from an incumbent. The current 'Noles roster is pretty talented, including the top five recruiting classes Jimbo Fisher hauled in during the 2010 season.

But which 2011 incoming players will be in line to start this year for Seminoles?

5. Nick Waisome, CB

1 of 5

Waisome will look to take advantage of being a part of a young FSU defensive secondary and establish himself as a prominent player to take over the third corner/nickel back role. Already enrolled and taking classes at FSU, Waisome will get to show why he was so highly regarded early in spring ball.

The 5'10", 170-pound cover corner is really good in off-man coverage, displaying great cover instincts, transition quickness and a quick close on receivers. He will look to move inside as a freshman, but as he gains experience, Waisome should be fantastic on the perimeter.

Xavier Rhodes, Terrence Brooks, Avis Commack and Mike Harris will be his main competition.

4. Jacob Fahrenkrug, OC/OG

2 of 5

Fahrenkrug is a 6'4", 315 pounder that is form the JC ranks in North Dakota. He will look to start at either center or left guard for the Seminoles, and already has an inside track to land an opening day job.

He is quick on his feet and possess amazing strength. Fahrenkrug understands how to play with leverage, and when I watched his tape, I saw a mean streak and an ability to finish as a drive blocker. He shows flashes of good balance and agility in his pulls, and holds his own as a pass protector in short area space in the middle of the pocket.

Rick Trickett will do wonders with Fahrenkrug, as he is expected to develop into an All-ACC offensive lineman.

3. Karlos Williams, DS

3 of 5

Williams is physically ready to play college ball now. The 6'2", 210-pound safety has the size and strength to make tackles on college ball carriers immediately. Williams has great play speed and range to become a solid free safety, but his best spot likely will be strong safety.

The talk is he may grow into an outside linebacker, as his impressive 210 pound frame hasn't even gone through the rigors of a college strength training program. Williams wants to remain at safety, and I feel he is talented enough to crack the two deep as a true freshman. He'll get some snaps early, especially in big nickel/sub packages.

Terrence Parks, Nick Moody and Justin Bright will be Williams' competition for reps in the Seminoles' deep middle.

2. James Wilder, RB

4 of 5

Wilder is another player in FSU's incoming class who is physically ready to play right now. At 6'2", 220 pounds, he will get his first crack at running back, though a move to linebacker is possible. Wilder is very strong and has great straightline speed as a running back. He has natural run instincts and solid vision.

The Seminole running back corps lacks a true big back and Wilder could come in and fill that role immediately. He's an impressive specimen that not only looks the part, but plays like one as well.

Chris Thompson, Ty Jones, Jermaine Thomas and fellow freshman Devonta Freeman are all smaller, speedier backs. Wilder could give the FSU rushing attack some size and strength with a bully's mentality.

1. Cornelius Carradine, DE

5 of 5

Okay, so when your nickname is "Tank," then you know you're doing something on right on the field. At 6'5", 250 pounds, Carradine figures to step right into a defensive end spot and terrorize the ACC.

He's flies off the ball and bends about as well as Kamerion Wimbley and Peter Boulware did. He also possess a burst to close out in a hurry. He plays tremendously fast, is strong to anchor vs. the run and has incredible range and athleticism.

Brandon Jenkins and Bjoern Werner figure to be the starters as things sit right now, but once Carradine comes to Tallahassee, expect him to stake a claim in one of the two starting defensive end spots.

He will be a treat to watch for FSU.
