College Football Recruiting 2012: LA Under Armour Combine Recruiting Updates

Edwin WeathersbyMar 7, 2011

Bleacher Report was at the Los Angeles Under Armour Combine this past weekend, and made the trip to Santa Monica College for the two-day event. We got a chance to mingle around while out on the field and catch up with several players to chat with about their recruitment.

On a rare cloudy weekend in Los Angeles, Under Armour hosted some 250 players to test them physically, test their character, speak about the importance of academics, and showcase their on-field football talents.

We've got a couple updates for you on some big names as well as top underclassmen to introduce you to in the world of college football recruiting.

Let's check it out.

Milton Williams Is Diggin' USC

1 of 6

We got a chance to chat with Don Lugo (CA) linebacker Milton Williams, who came to the event and jumped nearly 31 inches in the vertical jump.

He's a linebacker that is best served to play in the short area and make tackles within the box. 6'1", 210 pounds, Williams is hearing from several schools, but one is sticking out.

"I really like USC the most." says Williams, "They're recruiting me to play linebacker, either the SAM or WILL. I'm also hearing from Washington, Oregon, UCLA, Cal, Stanford and Arizona".

Look for Williams to emerge as one of the better linebacker prospects in the Golden State in 2012.

Johnny Johnson Will Be a Top Flight Corner in 2013

2 of 6

Johnny Johnson was the best defensive back at the LA UA Combine, and the 5'10", 170 pounder is only a junior.

Johnson was a bully at the camp, punishing receivers to press on the perimeter and had great short area quickness in his plant and drive. An intense cover corner, Johnson also displayed great transition quickness in off-man coverage as well.

"I haven't gotten any mail yet, but I think I'm going to start to get some soon. I'm still only a sophomore technically in school, so I really can only get certain things right now." Johnson told us.

Warren Running for Exposure

3 of 6

Demetrius Warren caught our eye early, as we noticed his shiftiness in the L-Cone drill where he turned in a 7.02 time. Warren also ran a 4.27 short shuttle and exploded up for 33.5 inches in the vertical jump.

Out of Bullard high in Fresno (CA), Warren rushed for 1423 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior last fall. The 5'8", 170 pound scat back also worked linebackers at the junction point in one on ones all weekend, showing great quickness, agility and hands.

"Right now I'm being recruiting the hardest by Oregon and San Diego State. Those are the two schools I like the most right now," said Warren.

Crone Crowned Top QB at Los Angeles Under Armour Combine

4 of 6

Aaron Crone seemed to be the QB who stood out among a group a solidly talented signal callers throughout the weekend. At 6' and 190 pounds, I really liked Crone's mechanics, quick release and touch.

He showed he knew what pitches to through at all times, as Crone fired bullets to fit balls in tight windows while also lofting balls over defenders with touch and timing.

"I think my biggest strength is my accuracy. But I want to improve my play speed." said Crone. "I'm hearing from Nevada the most. They're really interested. Boise State, Fresno State and Iowa State are also on me hard too."

"I think I can play and fit into any offense. The spread, the pistol, pro-style. It doesn't really matter to me."

Richardson Stoked for Elite-11 QB Camp Workouts, Hearing from TCU & UCLA

5 of 6

Dominic Richardson, a 6'0", 160 pound QB from Mira Mesa (CA) was on hand at the LA Under Armour Combine and showcased his abilities along with Crone.

"I got invited to Elite-11 camp workouts. I'm pretty excited about that. I'm getting recruited by UCLA, SDSU, San Jose State and TCU." Richardson told Bleacher Report.

"I think my arm strength and mobility are my biggest strengths. I also can scan the field well. But I do play in a shotgun offense so I know I need to work on my drops from under center."

"I want to stay close to home. That's why I like San Diego State so much."

Muhammad One to Watch in 2013, Likes USC, UCLA, LSU & Oregon

6 of 6

Khalfani Muhammad, a 2013 running back, ran a 4.56 40, a blazing 6.69 L-Cone and jumped 32 inches at the combine. Muhammad was called the top running back at the combine by former NFL great Barry Foster.

The 5'8", 170 pound change-of-pacer Muhammad rushed for 851 yards and 13 touchdowns lat year as a sophomore for powerhouse Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks (CA).

Said Muhammad, "I'm hearing from everybody man. USC, UCLA, Oregon, Georgia Tech, LSU just to name a few. I'm keeping my options open right now and we'll see what happens down the road."
