Real Madrid: Karim Benzema Playing Well, Thanks Mourinho for Form Improvement

Nick LMar 7, 2011

MADRID, SPAIN—It was recently speculated that Karim Benzema's lack of form and goals as well as under-performance were unimpressive to Real Madrid's coach Jose Mourinho and that the French striker could well be on his way out of Spain in this summer's transfer window. Recent results and play from Benzema could suggest differently.

The 23-year-old forward has been on top of his form netting four goals this weekend, two against Malaga and two against Racing Santander. He also scored a pivotal away goal for Madrid in the Champions League against his former club Lyon.

Since the January loan of Emmanuel Adebayor, the pair of strikers have worked extremely well together and are earning their minutes on the pitch.

After Sunday's match Benzema was quoted saying, "This is a great team and I will continue putting forth my best effort for it. I feel great alongside Adebayor and I hope to play with him in the next match. Jose Mourinho has been working with me a lot; and also in the mental aspect. I am doing well on the pitch, which is good news for all of us."

It is good news for Madrid supporters indeed. Benzema's crucial goals this past weekend left Madrid still in reach to catch powerhouse Barcelona.

With a nice chunk of season remaining Real Madrid will have to be on point if they want to come close to touching the flawless league play of Barcelona. With seven huge points separating the two teams, Benzema will need to continue his scoring spree as superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will be out due to injury.

Jose Mourinho will be a key factor in keeping Benzema focused, and has done a good job thus far. With the relationship growing between the two, Benzema can gain a tenure in a Los Blancos jersey even with the return of Higuain.

The French striker is proving his worth to the team and making a case for a spot in the starting 11.

Benzema has been impressive. Hopefully that play continues.
