College Football 2011: 10 College Teams with the Easiest Home Schedules
Dig around enough and you'll find that many teams already have their schedules set for the fall.
Some will make you laugh, too.
I've looked through countless college football schedules and some teams should coast at home this year. Many teams have maybe two games tops that will be tough. The rest are a collection of abysmal, average and even tiny schools.
Take a look at Wyoming, which faces Weber State, or Miami, which hosts Bethune-Cookman.
I can't say much more.
Here are the 10 teams with the easiest home schedules in 2011:
10. Syracuse
1 of 10
There really is one tough game the Orange will have, and that's against West Virginia.
The rest are winnable: Wake Forest, Rhode Island, Toledo, Rutgers, South Florida and Cincinnati.
Syracuse should have a chance to run the table there. We're not talking about a string of powerhouses.
9. Tulane
2 of 10
The Green Wave should go 3-3 at worst with this schedule: Southeastern La., Tulsa, Syracuse, UTEP, Memphis and Houston.
Like at Vanderbilt, I'm puzzled why the smart kids at Tulane can do so well in baseball, but when it comes to football, they just can't put it together.
Hey, at least the school's close to Uptown and there's plenty of cool places to go eat and have fun.
8. Connecticut
3 of 10
The Paul Pasqualoni era begins with a pretty favorable slate of home games.
The list: Fordham, Iowa State, Western Michigan, South Florida, Syracuse, Louisville and Rutgers. There's three bowl teams there, but nothing seriously intimidating.
Question for you Big East people: Is it easy to get into Big East football, or do you just see it as filler until basketball season?
7. Virginia
4 of 10
The Cavaliers have two tough games against North Carolina State and Virginia Tech.
After that, home games are against William & Mary, Southern Miss, Idaho, Georgia Tech and Duke.
Yup, it's not a misprint. Seven home games and only five on the road, including two early on at Indiana and North Carolina. Be encouraged Virginia fans. Your schedule sets up very favorably.
6. Boston College
5 of 10
This could wind up being very good, or a nightmare.
The Eagles have home games against Northwestern, Duke, UMass, Wake Forest, Florida State and North Carolina State. The two toughest are the last ones.
The first four are certainly up for the taking.
5. Miami
6 of 10
New Hurricanes coach Al Golden will have his hands full when they open at home with Ohio State, then play Kansas State the following week.
After that, home games include Bethune-Cookman, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Duke and Boston College.
It's tempting to think Ohio State will pound Miami, but tap the brakes. Keep in mind the Buckeyes will be without five key starters who will be serving suspensions, including quarterback Terrelle Pryor and running back Dan Herron.
4. Wyoming
7 of 10
Wyoming would be a great place to hike and fish. That's what I hear at least.
Their home schedule has only two tough games: Weber State, Texas State, Nebraska, New Mexico, TCU and UNLV.
Even with all the starters they're losing, I still give TCU the edge simply because they'll have more talented players. Nebraska could get real ugly, but we'll see if they can avoid a letdown like last year's losses to Texas and Washington in the bowl game.
No reason the Cowboys shouldn't go 4-2 with this home schedule.
3. SMU
8 of 10
Attention June Jones: You have no excuse why you shouldn't leave the fans happy over there in University Park this fall.
SMU is about a 40-minute drive for me, and the Mustangs will host UTEP, Northwestern (La.) State, UCF, Tulane, Navy and Rice.
Navy could be a challenge, but the Mustangs could very well run the table at home.
2. Army
9 of 10
Can't bag on the cadets much, but they do have an incredibly soft schedule.
San Diego State won't be easy, and Northwestern will be competitive, but then there are home games with Tulane, Fordham and Rutgers, followed by the annual Army-Navy game, which will be in Landover, Md.
The Black Knights could very well emerge with one loss from this home schedule.
1. Brigham Young
10 of 10
The Cougars are launching off into the Independent world this fall.
Best of luck to Bronco Mendenhall's bunch.
BYU has one tough game at home with old Mountain West rival Utah. After that? Get ready to be nervous: Central Florida, Utah State, San Jose State, Idaho State, Idaho and New Mexico State. Makes you want to go get season tickets now, huh?
It's both weak and easy, and sets up well for BYU to have some incredibly inflated statistics this fall. Let's just hope Notre Dame has a better year and pushes them out of one of the potential major bowls. Yes, I know Central Florida knocked off Georgia in their bowl game, but I would respect them at least if that was Baylor, Houston or Tulsa.
Don't know which is weaker—this home schedule or nightly programming on CW TV.
