NBA Trade Rumors: New Jersey Nets To Acquire Deron Williams From Utah Jazz

Eric CaspersonFeb 23, 2011

After missing out on Carmelo Anthony, it looks like the New Jersey Nets are settling for second place once again.

Reports are surfacing from ESPN that the Nets and Jazz are working a deal that would send Deron Williams to the Nets in exchange for Devin Harris and Derrick Favors.

The deal would also include Golden State, who would be giving up draft picks to Utah.

After missing out on LeBron James over the summer and now missing out on Anthony, the Nets finally look to have made a deal that brings a superstar to New Jersey.

With Williams on board, the Nets will have a star to build around heading into Brooklyn. But, did the Nets give up too much?

What will happen with Derrick Favors? Favors is a very young raw talent who could blossom into a star. Harris is a very good point guard who the Nets were trying to get rid of regardless.

The Nets still have key trade pieces they could put on the market and perhaps clear some extra cap space for next season.

Heading to Brooklyn, the Nets seem to be making all the right moves now. Williams is a star. He is not Carmelo Anthony, but it is a good thing the Nets did not get Anthony. Their proposed trade would have left New Jersey crippled for the next five years.

Without mortgaging their future, the Nets have acquired a different superstar. Williams will be a welcomed addition to a potentially good team that already includes Brook Lopez.
