UEFA Champions League: Is This Sir Alex's Last Chance To Win It All?

Joe TanseyFeb 21, 2011

Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the best managers of all time and yet again, with another season coming into the home stretch, the discussion of when Fergie will retire is becoming relevant again.

Many have speculated that Ferguson will retire when the final pieces of the Old Guard at Old Trafford retire. With Gary Neville retiring midseason due to injuries, only Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are left from the treble squad that won the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League in 1998-99.

The question that arises this season: Is this Ferguson's last chance to win the Champions League title? Along with the 1998-99 triumph, Ferguson's Manchester United club won in 2007-08.

The answer to that question is a simple, "No."

If you ask me, Ferguson has at least three more years left. Why would you want to leave a squad that contains many world-class players and a club that has a chance to win a couple more Premier League titles and another European crown?

Let's be honest here: Manchester United will make it to the round of sixteen in the Champions League every year and most likely will make a deep run in Europe's top club competition.

The Red Devils have world-class defenders in Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, a play-making winger in Nani and great finishers in Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov. Also, they have the experience of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs with the big game explosiveness of Ji-Sung Park.

United's talent level will never falter as long as Ferguson is in charge of the club. Every year Ferguson is in charge, United will be title contenders. Maybe with a few summer signings the Red Devils could be unstoppable, but they are as good as any club in Europe right now.

Ferguson is currently in charge of one of his best teams in a while. His club has only one loss in the Premier League and is driving through the Champions League, starting with Marseille on Wednesday.

In the end, the simple answer is that Sir Alex Ferguson will always have a club capable of winning the Champions League. With his current squad chock-full of European experience, Ferguson and United can win the Champions League not only this year, but for years to come.
