Wasn't lucky when De Rossi ricocheted Jadson's shot into the back of the net. On other two scores, had no defense.

Rating: 5

John Arne Riise

Struggled all game to contain any of the Ukrainian attack and did not advance up the pitch at all. Came off at halftime.

Rating: 4

Nicolas Burdisso

Missed an easy opportunity and was partially to blame for the third Shakhtar goal. Had problems closing down the counter.

Rating: 4

Philippe Mexes

Again, struggled to contain Luiz Adriano's speed and attack as the Brazilian made runs all over the field. Seemed out of sync with the rest of the line.

Rating: 5

Marco Cassetti

Provided vulnerability and weakness when the counter approached. Left a lot of space when he advanced up the field and didn't play well on the ball.

Rating: 5

Simone Perrotta

Opened the scoring. Gave up too much space in the middle of the pitch, which affected Roma's flow. Played hard and tried to be involved as much as he could.

Rating: 6

Daniele De Rossi*

Had an unlucky bounce go into his net and was sluggish against Douglas Costa. Bounced back well and held Roma for most of the second half.

Rating: 7

Jeremy Menez*

61st-minute goal was beautiful: a curler into the top corner. Remained a constant threat for Roma all game even when they were on their backs.

Rating: 8

Taddei

Presented dangerous crossing opportunities at times and found good spaces. Relatively quiet.

Rating: 7

Mirko Vucinic

Made good runs and caused problems before fading out of the game and being replaced by Marco Borriello.

Rating: 6

Francesco Totti

Was a huge factor in the opening moments of the game and dictated the attack well before Shakhtar scored three unanswered. After that, struggled to find momentum till the end of the game.

Rating: 6

Substitutes

Paolo Castellini

Halftime replacement for Riise provided most stable defense of the night for Roma.

Rating: 6

Marco Boriello

Always 15 minutes on the pitch and not enough time to make any impact.

Rating: 5

Shakhtar

Andriy Pyatov

Could've stopped the first, definitely not the second. Played his line fairly well.

Rating: 6

Razvan Dinca Rat

Was unfortunate to have a ball deflect off him into the net, but kept his composure and played a strong second half.

Rating: 6.5

Yaroslav Rakytskyy

Powerful presence in the back with great vision of the game and intercepting ability. Organized defense well.

Rating: 7

Dymtro Chygrynskiy

Yellow card shown after several challenges on Totti. Held a strong back line while covering the gaps.

Rating: 6.5

Darijo Srna

Was beaten by Vucinic several times but recovered well with a great attacking mentality down the right side.

Rating: 7

Willian*

Flowed the game beautifully with grace and creativity. Had great vision in the counterattack and good touch on the ball. Outplayed Riise in the first half.

Rating: 7

Tomas Hubschmann

Physically put himself on the line for his team and threw vital tackles to stop buildups. Distributed well.

Rating: 7

Jadson*

Was a threat most of the game, leveled it after trailing for a minute. Although quiet early in the second half, he relieved pressure on the defense with a few counterattacks in the end.

Rating: 8

Henrik Mkhitaryan

Close to doubling the lead but besides that screened well in front of Shakhtar's back four. Did the dirty work well.

Rating: 7

Douglas Costa*

Put Shakhtar ahead with a nice left-footed shot and was dangerous all game. Also was involved in the third goal, which was decisive.

Rating: 7.5

Luiz Adriano**

Was a vital part of the trio of goals for Shakhtar and put away Costa's pass just before halftime. Worked hard; threatening from set pieces. Was given a card for time wasting.

Rating: 8

Substitutes

Eduardo

Rating: none

Alex Teixeira

In for Luiz Adriano; helped open space in Roma's defense.

Rating: 6

Vitaliy Vitsenets

Late sub to strengthen the defense.
