AC Milan Vs. Tottenham Hotspur FC: Champions League Recap

Nick LFeb 15, 2011

MILAN—An 'upset' has came about in first leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions League match between AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.

After an well fought out, fairly uneventful first half of football, Harry Redknapp made the right moves off the bench to lift the Spurs over Milan.

Right out of half-time the Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart chipped a beauty of a shot from the edge of the box as it creepped just wide of the net. Brazilian Tottenham goalkeeper Gomes also made two incredible saves about ten minutes apart to deny Yepes' headers.

Tottenham had good control and possession of the second half of the game, although the introduction of Pato awakened the Milan fans to create a tougher atmosphere for the Premier League opponents.

Although Milan had a few better chances on net, a Tottenham counterattack with 10 minutes left of game time proved to be decisive. Substitute Luka Modric poked the ball to winger Aaron Lennon as he sped past Milan defender Yepes and centered to ball to unmarked English striker Peter Crouch.

After the goal, Tottenham stayed mostly of the defensive-side even suffering a scare when in injury time Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic placed a header passed Gomes but got called for a push on Dawson, a foul for which he indeed committed.

As so Tottenham deservingly leave Italy victorious with an incredibly good game played and an away goal favoring them, they will face Milan back in England on March 9th, less then a month away.
