Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: 10 Moves Orlando Magic Can Make To Keep Him Happy

Tom KinslowJun 6, 2018

Dwight Howard trade rumors have much more to do about his impending free agency in a couple of years and what the Magic can do to help get him and the rest of the team over the top and back into the NBA Finals before he has the chance to leave town.

The Magic have already made a splash in the trade market, and Orlando could still use some pieces to improve the team down the stretch. With that in mind, here are 10 moves Orlando should explore to make Superman a bit happier than he is right now.

No. 10: Acquire Antwan Jamison

This is a long shot because of Jamison's contract, but if anyone has contracts that could match up, it's the Orlando Magic.

Jamison would be a nice addition to the power forward spot and Cleveland is looking to move him before the trade deadline. If he isn't traded, the Cavs could buy him out and the Magic could sign him on the open market.

He would certainly be an interesting option in that lineup.

No. 9: Trade For Samuel Dalembert

2 of 10
NEW ORLEANS, LA - DECEMBER 15: Samuel Dalembert #10 of the Sacramento Kings shoots the ball over David West #30 and Jason Smith #14 of the New Orleans Hornets at the New Orleans Arena on December 15, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Hornets defeated

This would be a tricky deal to pull off because of Sacramento's demands in a deal for Samuel Dalembert.

Sacramento would like to stay in a similar situation in terms of salary after a deal since the big man's deal is expiring at the end of the season. Orlando doesn't have that much in terms of expiring deals so it might make it a bit of a challenge.

However, Dalembert would be a good defensive presence for the Magic, especially if Orlando went big.

No. 8: Trade For Andris Biedrins

3 of 10

Andris Biedrins isn't a name that will drive the fan base wild, but it's a move that would help the Magic out.

Biedrins is a black hole on the offensive end, but he's a guy who can really crash the boards and make plays on the defensive end. Orlando needs a guy who can grab those rebounds that Howard can't get to and get the stops needed to win the close games the Magic will see late in the season.

It would be interesting to see what Golden State would want for him.

No. 7: Trade For Nene

DENVER, CO - JANUARY 21: Nene #31 of the Denver Nuggets puts up a shot against Andrew Bynum #17 of the Los Angeles Lakers at the Pepsi Center on January 21, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. The Lakers defeated the Nuggets 107-97. NOTE TO USER: User expressly ac

Nene is a guy who has wanted out of Denver for some time, and could be moved by the Nuggets.

It's a toxic situation in Denver and you can see why he'd want out. Moving him to Orlando would put him with a dominant big man and free him up on the defensive and offensive glass. Nene gets after it when it comes to rebounding and could be a major x-factor.

It'd be hard to work out a deal with Denver, but it's worth exploring.

No. 6: Trade For Jared Jeffries

5 of 10
NEW YORK - JANUARY 24: Jared Jeffries #20 of the New York Knicks holds the ball away from Josh Howard #5 of the Dallas Mavericks at Madison Square Garden January 24, 2010 in New York City. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by down

This certainly isn't a move that would turn heads, but Orlando doesn't necessarily need that.

Jared Jeffries is a guy that hasn't gotten to see a lot of the court in Houston and has an expiring contract on top of that. It would be tough to find a deal that would please the salary cap-savvy Rockets, but it's a road worth traveling down if you're Orlando.

He would certainly make an impact on the defensive end.

No. 5: Trade For Troy Murphy

6 of 10
NEW ORLEANS, LA - DECEMBER 22: Marcus Thornton #5 of the New Orleans Hornets shoots the ball over Troy Murphy #7 of the New Jersey Nets at the New Orleans Arena on December 22, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Hornets defeated the Nets 105-91. NOTE

Troy Murphy is a guy who is extremely unhappy in New Jersey and can be had for the right price.

Murphy's a guy who would fit into Orlando's system and would work himself into a nice little niche in the Magic's rotation. He's a guy who could hit a couple spot-up jumpers and grab rebounds while taking some pressure off of Dwight Howard.

He'd be much happier with the Magic than he is right now in New Jersey.

No. 4: Trade For Marcus Camby

7 of 10
PHOENIX, AZ - JANUARY 14: Marcus Camby #23 of the Portland Trail Blazers in action during the NBA game against the Phoenix Suns at US Airways Center on January 14, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Suns defeated the Trail Blazers 115-111. NOTE TO USER: User

Marcus Camby is a guy that would be a monster in Orlando.

Camby's an amazing defender and rebounder who would anchor the Magic alongside Dwight Howard in that frontcourt and would make Orlando a much, much better team with him in the fold. It will be interesting to see what Portland would want to move him, though.

If Camby can be had, Orlando has to try and see if it can snag him.

No. 3: Trade For Zach Randolph

8 of 10
PHOENIX - NOVEMBER 05: Zach Randolph #50 of the Memphis Grizzlies puts up a shot during the NBA game against the Phoenix Suns at US Airways Center on November 5, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by down

Zach Randolph is a guy that's likely to be on the move, and Orlando should explore this option.

Randolph is a guy who has been a beast on the boards and has been racking up double doubles night after night and would be a great option for the Magic, who would dominate the glass with Howard and Randolph in the lineup every night.

It's a longshot, but you have to at least explore the option.

No. 2: Trade For Tayshaun Prince

9 of 10
MIAMI, FL - JANUARY 28: Tayshaun Prince #22 of of the Detroit Pistons posts up LeBron James #6 of the Miami Heat during a game at American Airlines Arena on January 28, 2011 in Miami, Florida. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by

Tayshaun Prince is a guy that's been on the trading block for a good while and would give Orlando some needed length and defensive toughness.

Prince is a guy who can post up and get you some offense, and even though he's a little overrated defensively, he's a guy that would be an instant upgrade for the Magic. Orlando has some trade exceptions and players to worth with and that could be intriguing to the Pistons.

It will be hard to pry Prince away with his contract expiring, but it's an option worth exploring.

No. 1: Trade For Shane Battier

10 of 10
LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 01: Pau Gasol #16 of the Los Angeles Lakers and Shane Battier #31 of the Houston Rockets battle for a rebound in the first half at Staples Center on February 1, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. The Lakers defeated the Rockets 1

The Magic could really use some defending in the front court and Shane Battier is a guy Orlando could try and swing a deal for.

One guy's salary who matches up is Jameer Nelson's, but that would be a big issue since Gilbert Arenas has just been awful since coming over to the Magic. However, you could move J.J. Redick and it's a move that you have to consider making.

There has to be some package that could entice Houston.
