Georgia Football 2011 Schedule: Game-By-Game Breakdown
The Georgia Bulldogs did not exactly have their 2010-2011 season go according to plan. Suspensions and fumbles caused a few early season losses and the fact that A.J. Green was out for the first four games didn't help at all.
However, the team started to show promise during the latter half of the season. Three straight wins were followed by an overtime loss to Florida. Then a blowout of Idaho State and a good showing in a loss to Auburn ensued.
The regular season ended with a great win against Georgia Tech and a disheartening touchdown-less loss to Central Florida in the Liberty Bowl (ironically sponsored by AutoZone).
But then came recruiting and the Dream Team was assembled. Now Mark Richt has all the talent in the world to work with and a much more successful 2011 campaign should be expected.
For a look at the 2011 schedule, read on.
Boise State Broncos (Mountain West)
1 of 12
When: September 3
Where: Atlanta, GA
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 12-1, including a 26-3 Maaco Bowl Las Vegas win over Utah.
Noteworthy: Georgia and Boise State are both supposed to be contenders in their respective conferences. Not too many programs would have the guts to schedule this game, but even so, it is a must win for both teams.
South Carolina Gamecocks (SEC)
2 of 12
When: September 10
Where: Home
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 9-5, including a 26-17 Chick-fil-A Bowl loss to Florida State.
Noteworthy: Stopping last season's NCAA Freshman of the Year, Marcus Lattimore, is going to be a tough task. The 2011 Heisman candidate ran for 182 yards and two scores against the Bulldogs in 2010.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (Big South)
3 of 12
When: September 17
Where: Home
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 6-6.
Noteworthy: Coastal Carolina has only fielded a football team since the Chanticleers' inaugural season back in 2003. If you're curious, a chanticleer is a mythical rooster that appeared in a few medieval fables.
Mississippi Rebels (SEC)
4 of 12
When: September 24
Where: Oxford, MS
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 4-8.
Noteworthy: Ole Miss went just 1-7 in the SEC last season and should have a fairly similar fate in 2011. A win against Georgia will not be forthcoming.
Mississippi State Bulldogs (SEC)
5 of 12
When: October 1
Where: Home
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 9-4, including a 52-14 Progressive Gator Bowl over Michigan.
Noteworthy: Chris Relf and the Mississippi State Bulldogs appear to be a team on the rise in the SEC. After winning the battle of Bulldogs last season by 12 points, Mississippi State would love to extend the winning streak.
Tennessee Volunteers (SEC)
6 of 12
When: October 8
Where: Knoxville, TN
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 6-7, including a 30-27 Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl loss in double overtime to North Carolina.
Noteworthy: Tennessee had a shot at a winning record in 2010 despite falling to the Bulldogs 41-14 at Sanford Stadium. Now Tyler Bray has more experience and should be able to fill out his shoulder pads a bit better.
Vanderbilt Commodores (SEC)
7 of 12
When: October 15
Where: Nashville, TN
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 2-10.
Noteworthy: I don't think the SEC is particularly proud of having to list Vanderbilt among its members. After a 41-0 shellacking at the hands of the Bulldogs last year in Athens, not much is going to change in 2011.
Florida Gators (SEC)
8 of 12
When: October 29
Where: Jacksonville, FL
Time: 3:30 PM EST
Opponent's 2010 record: 8-5, including a 37-24 Outback Bowl win over Penn State.
Noteworthy: The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is always a great game and experience for the schools involved. At this point, we have no idea who will play quarterback for the Gators. It could be John Brantley, Trey Burton or No. 1 quarterback prospect Jeff Driskel.
New Mexico State Aggies (WAC)
9 of 12
When: November 5
Where: Home
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 2-10.
Noteworthy: Winning just two games is never good. It's even worse when the wins are against San Jose State and New Mexico. Mark down a victory for the Bulldogs right now.
Auburn Tigers (SEC)
10 of 12
When: November 12
Where: Home
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 14-0, including a 22-19 BCS National Championship Game victory over Oregon.
Noteworthy: Heisman winner Cam Newton and Nick Fairley are both gone, but a great recruiting class and an even better version of Michael Dyer will take over. After the bitterness and accusations of dirty play in last year's contest, this will be a tough game.
Kentucky Wildcats (SEC)
11 of 12
When: November 19
Where: Home
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 6-7, including a 27-10 BBVA Compass Bowl loss to Pittsburgh.
Noteworthy: Mike Hartline is gone. Derrick Locke is gone. Randall Cobb is gone. Enough said.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
12 of 12
When: November 26
Where: Atlanta, GA
Time: TBA
Opponent's 2010 record: 6-7, including a 14-7 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl loss to Air Force.
Noteworthy: The triple option is always tough to stop, especially when the Yellow Jackets running it are all fired up for the rivalry game. Georgia won last year's edition of this game, 42-34.
