Ranking the ACC After Week Four of College Football Action
1. Wake Forest (3-0, 1-0)—Last week: 1
The Deacons own FSU, they flat out own them. That's now 3 straight wins over the Noles. Their coach is better, their players are better, they play harder and smarter. The Wake Forest Demon Deacon program is better than the Florida State Seminoles's. No debate... Wake Forest hat's off to you, you are clearly the ACC's best team after week 4.
2. Virginia Tech (3-1, 2-0)—Last week: 4
Here come the Hokies... After the annual early season slip up, the Hokies make an improbable comeback against UNC to win their 2nd straight ACC game 20-17. Defensively this team is as good as any the ACC. They are going to be very tough to beat down the stretch, and have established themselves as the clear favorite in the Coastal.
3. Georgia Tech (3-1, 1-1)—Last week: 5
Georgia Tech from the little ole ACC, took on Mississippi St from the big bad mighty SEC. Would the Jackets even score? A 38 - 7 final score later, and GT simply destroyed a very credible SEC defense, and that is with the backup QB Jaybo Shaw playing most of the game. Wow that might be the ACC's best non-conference win this season. 438 yds rushing... Paul Johnson is building a monster in Atlanta.
4. Clemson (3-1, 1-0)—Last week: 3
54-0 against SC State. Harper was a little shaky throwing 2 INTs, but otherwise the Tigers finally played liked the team with all the preseason hype. Next 3 games against Maryland, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech will tell the tale of this season.
5. Miami (2-1, 0-0)—Last week: 7
Anytime you win at College Station, that's a good win, well not so much anymore, but Miami looks much improved over last season. Their defense is stifling.
6. UNC (2-1, 0-1)—Last week: 6
The Heels are going to be a tough out all season. Blew the breakthrough game with Virginia Tech, but game next week with Miami could put them back in the race.
7. Maryland (3-1, 0-0)—Last week: 8
Here is a team on the rise. They are starting to find a little offense, and they have the best pure WR in the ACC, in Darrius Heyward Bey. Win next week at Clemson, and could the Terps be Wake's main challengers?
8. Florida State (2-1, 0-1)—Last week: 2
Frauds... I'll admit I was duped. 3 Points in a make or break type game? Are you kidding me? Reports of the Seminoles return to glory have been proven false.
9. Boston College (2-1, 0-1)—Last week: 9
Easy win over UCF is better than it looks. Chris Crane was sloppy in the first half, but played solid in the 2nd, which should help his confidence.
10. NC State (2-2, 0-1)—Last week: 11
Nice victory over a solid East Carolina Team. Tom O Brian has done a very good job, of getting this team refocused, after a season that looked like it was headed for disaster.
11. Duke (2-1, 0-0)—Last week: 10
They have to chance to go 3-1 next week in a game with Virginia. This actually is quite an important game for the Blue Devils. It could prove they are without doubt not the worst team in the ACC. That's something they have not been able to say for years.
12. UVA (1-2, 0-0)—Last week: 12
Oh UVA... You just got rid of your starting QB Peter Lalich and your the only ACC team that hasn't showed a pulse this season. The Cavs better win next week or their season could turn into a real nightmare.
