WEEK 4: Pops 'n Drops and My Top 25

Week Four of the 2008 College Football Season ended about an hour ago. Here are the POPS and DROPS and the Top 25 as I see them. ( ) The teams rank in my Week Three poll.

If SEC fans are wondering why Florida is ranked ahead of LSU read my comment below under POPS.

POPS:

  • Florida (3) 30-6 over the Vols moves back into a tie at #2 with the idle Sooners.
    • LSU, which was tied with Missouri at #4, retains sole possession of the 4-spot with its win over Auburn. Although they lost, Auburn moves up a spot from 15 to 14 on their good showing against LSU. However, Auburn could only edge Mississippi State 3-2 last week, and this week Georgie Tech crushed Miss. State, 38-7. Hmm?
    • Alabama (11) moves back into the Top 10 at #10 clobbering Arkansas 49-14.
    • Texas Tech (10) popped to # 9 destroying UMass.
    • BYU pops from 18 to 15 with another impressive shutout, this one over Wyoming, 44-0, following its 59-0 rout of UCLA
    • Idle Oklahoma State and Nebraska each nudged up a spot to 18 and 19 respectively.
    • Wake Forest pops from 22 to 20 with a 12-3 win over Florida State.
    • Vandy nudges up from 24 to 22 with a win over Ole Miss.
    • 3-0 Colorado pops into the Top 25 at #21 win a win over West Virginia.
    • 4-0 Minnesota pops into a tie with idle Illinois at #25 with a win over hapless Florida Atlantic.

    DROPS:

  • East Carolina drops from 14 all the way to #24. Friday was National Speak Pirate
    Day. Saturday was Tarheels upset Pirates Day, 30-24. This follows a near loss last week to Tulane.
  • Oregon Ducks (17) waddle back into the pond. Boise quacked them up, 37-32.
  • Idle Wisconsin falls from #9 to #11 bumped back by strong wins from Texas Tech and Bama.
  • Iowa drops from 21 to Unranked, losing to Pittsburgh.
