National Signing Day 2011: 10 Signees Ready for an Immediate Impact

Joseph HigginsJun 7, 2018

Top recruits have made their decision on where they are going to play college ball. Still, some haven't committed to a specific school yet.

Within in the group of top recruits there are always ones that will stand out. Ones that are predicted to end up playing like LaDainian Tomlinson or Peyton Manning or Ray Lewis.

At the beginning, predictions could be correct or considered, but it all depends on how well that individual will fit into the team's system. Some players won't be able to handle the dedication of college football or the work load. Some will.

In no particular order, he are 10 kids who will instantly help their team out and make their name heard throughout the college football world.

Stephone Anthony- Clemson Tigers

1 of 10

Stephone played outside linebacker and running back in high school. At Clemson he'll play in his linebacker spot.

Stephone averaged 11.2 tackles a game at Anson High School in North Carolina, with four sacks and two interceptions.

Why will he work? His speed. He didn't play running back because he was slow, he can pressure the quarterback and will be a menace in the backfield.

Since he used to play running back too, he knows how a running back thinks and functions. It should be easy for him to get in the head of whoever's lined up behind or to the side of the quarterback.

His size isn't too bad either (6'3", 220 pounds).

Savon Huggins- Rutgers Scarlet Knights

2 of 10

Have Rutgers found their next Ray Rice? One might hope so.

Hailing from the dirty jerz himself, I'm sure Greg Schiano has been eying this kid up since he started playing as a freshman.

Huggins had a highlight game this past season against North Bergan in which he rushed for 263 yards with three touchdowns. Not to mention his rushing average was a high 10.62 per carry.

While the Scarlet Knights haven't produced a 1,000 yard rusher since the days of Ray Rice (Joe Martinek came so close in 2009 with 967 yards) Huggins has the potential to be that 1,000 yard rusher for the Knights (providing he gets a good amount of carriers.)

Jeff Driskel- Florida Gators

3 of 10

While watching this highlight tape one can see that Driskel can run like Tim Tebow. But will he be like Tebow? Not likely.

Either way Driskel has the arm to throw the deep ball and the footing to avoid the sack and maybe even take off for a first down every now and then.

So why is Driskel going to be an impact the quarterback position as a freshman?

He's more a passing quarterback than a rushing one. He thinks pass first, then going off to the races.

John Brantley didn't have the greatest of seasons last year for the Gators. He did throw only one more interception than touchdown and his QB rating wasn't too shabby.

What Jeff Driskel needs to do is prove that he's better than both Brantley and Jordan Reed. Reed might be more of a competition than Brantley next season.

Ray Drew- Georgia Bulldogs

4 of 10

The big boy Ray Drew. Well, at least he was towering in high school. Drew's 6'5", 245 pound frame won't be such a difficult lineman to block in college.

That could have been Drew's advantage in high school: his height.

Nevertheless, this lineman knows how to disrupt the backfield whether it's sacking the quarterback or stopping the rush.

His ability to adjust to the option is something that was great in high school, but it can only help him in college. He won't be having to defend the option package too much, but his versatility will help him with his overall play.

Jay Rome- Georgia Bulldogs

5 of 10

Another Bulldogs who's going to make an impact next season.

Jay Drew is going to be the next Antonio Gates. Yes, a very bold statement, but he has the height and the big play ability to be as great as Gates for the rest of his football career.

He is able to get separation from the linebackers and when he moves onto the safeties, he makes it a living nightmare for them.

La'el Collins- LSU Tigers

6 of 10

Committed to LSU as an offensive tackle and based on his size, he should have no problem protecting the quarterback.

Watching the video one will see that whenever his former teammate Jeremy Hill rushed Collins' way, there was a wide open hole waiting for Hill. Excellent rush blocker.

Malcolm Brown- Texas Longhorns

7 of 10

Power mixed with speed, that's what Malcolm Brown is. It's like a mixture of Cedric Benson and Jammal Charles morphed into one running back.

He'll do just what Savon Huggins will do, give their team a thousand yard rusher. And in Brown's case, he might even get his team into the Top 25 again.

Karlos Williams- Florida State Seminoles

8 of 10

No matter what position he played in high school, or what position he'll play in college, you can't argue that Williams' doesn't have blazing speed.

That's what made him so great, as one could see in the video.

He was signed as a defensive back for FSU and he'll be perfect at the safety position. Watching him deliver big hits and disrupting the pass made him look like a taller Bob Sanders or younger Darren Sharper.

Lawrence Thomas- Michigan State Spartans

9 of 10

Lawrence Thomas is a young version of Brian Urlacher. Thomas can play all aspects of the middle linebacker position and is excellent at stopping the run game.

He's an excellent addition to the Spartan's defense and he can play like he did in high school, then his name will be heard all around the NCAA.

Herschel Sims- Oklahoma State Cowboys

10 of 10

With Kendell Hunter graduating and, potentially, moving onto the NFL, who is going to be the number one running back for the Cowboys?

Well, there are sophomores Joseph Randle and Jeremy Smith who got their share of carries last season, but then there's the little guy: Herschel Sims.

A player who can turn a play that virtually looks like it's over into a touchdown can play on my team any day. If he doesn't get the full-time role at RB then he will either be a third down back or perhaps he give it a whirl on returning punts or kicks.
