National Signing Day 2011: Where Are The Top 25 Offensive Players Going?
With National Signing Day 2011 creating excitement across the nation, the top 25 offensive recruits have already committed to schools, with top running back Isaiah Crowell spurning Alabama to land in a top Georgia school.
Quarterback Jeff Driskel has committed, which should make some Floridians very happy, and some disappointed.
No real surprises here, as most of these players went to top schools, but there were surprises as to which top schools they ultimately ended up at.
So, without further ado, here are the top 25 offensive players in the 2011 recruiting class and where they will play next season.
See where all the Top 100 recruits are headed.
25. Malcolm Mitchell, WR, Valdosta HS (GA)
1 of 25
School: Georgia
With good speed and ball skills, as well as the agility that had many projecting him as a cornerback in the NFL early on, Malcolm Mitchell is one of the stars of this year's draft class, and could become a standout receiver at Georgia.
Maybe not A.J. Green standout, but a standout nonetheless.
24. Ja'Juan Story, WR, Nature Coast Technical (FL)
2 of 25
School: Florida
Well, the Florida Gators managed to land a top recruit despite the departure of coach Urban Meyers, so they have that going for them.
With excellent size and speed, Ja'Juan Story could be THE story for Florida next season.
Still a raw player, but extremely talented and one of the more physical receivers in the recruiting class.
23. Bradley Sylve, WR, South Plaquemines (LA)
3 of 25
School: Alabama
Well, the Alabama Crimson Tide landed a top receiver in Louisiana, nabbing him away from LSU.
But LSU may have landed an even better receiver, which we'll get to later.
Versatile, explosive, and fast, Bradley Sylve has all the tools to be a big-time playmaker in college.
Very fluid, changes direction fast, and can beat you with any route.
22. Quan Bray, WR/RB, Troup County Comprehensive (GA)
4 of 25
School: Auburn
As you'll see in this slideshow, Auburn landed some huge recruits this year.
One of them was Quan Bray, who's slated to play receiver for the Tigers.
Bray can fly across the field, changes direction on a dime, and is explosive off the line.
Perhaps what makes him the most dangerous is his ability to juke defenders, which he demonstrated much as a running back in Georgia.
That screams to project him as a guy who can get big-time yards after the catch.
21. Sammy Watkins, WR, South Fort Myers (FL)
5 of 25
School: Clemson
Clemson's top recruit this year, Sammy Watkins could pay huge dividends.
Watkins is not only quick and agile, he also possesses tremendous route-running ability, which could prove for him to be a nightmare for defenders.
His catching ability is also at a premiere level out of high school.
20. Jarvis Landry, WR, Lutcher HS (LA)
6 of 25
School: LSU
Here's the one receiver LSU probably had their eyes on for a while.
A Louisiana native, Landry is probably one of the fastest receivers in the class this year, and his acceleration makes him even more dangerous.
He's a very good catcher, demonstrating strong technique, and he has remarkable concentration on the field.
19. Matthew Hegarty, OT, Aztec HS (NM)
7 of 25
School: Notre Dame
Well, losing tight end Kyle Rudolph isn't all that bad.
Especially when you get an offensive tackle of Matthew Hegarty's caliber.
Hegarty possesses good height, a good frame, and has the toughness and aggressiveness to put it all together.
Good overall strength and agility, and can be explosive when drive blocking.
18. Brandon Williams, RB, Brookshire Royal (TX)
8 of 25
School: Oklahoma
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains!
Ya, that's what it's kinda gonna be like when Brandon Williams gets the balls in his hands.
His explosiveness, strength, and juking ability has drawn comparisons to the Oakland Raiders' Darren McFadden.
Ya, that's about all you need to do.
That, and the kid's got tremendous heart out on the field.
17. Cyrus Hobbi, G, Saguaro HS (AZ)
9 of 25
School: USC
With top lineman Tyron Smith departing the Trojans for the wider world of the NFL, it was important for the Trojans to pick up a top offensive lineman.
And pick one up they did.
Cyrus Hobbi has the quickness and strength to be a solid pass blocker and run blocker, shows good technique and footwork, and he possesses the toughness and aggressiveness to potentially excel at the collegiate level.
16. James Wilder Jr, RB, Plant Senior HS (FL)
10 of 25
School: Florida State
While Florida landed some top recruits, Florida State responded in turn.
At 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, James Wilder Jr. expects to play running back for FSU.
He's got good size for the position, as well as good speed, and his toughness is unquestionable.
He's explosive off the line, but he also needs to work on his agility a bit.
15. Savon Huggins, RB, St. Peter's HS (NJ)
11 of 25
School: Rutgers
Rutgers landed themselves a fine specimen in New Jersey native Savon Huggins.
The first thing that jumps out at you when you see Huggins play is "hesitant" isn't in his vocabulary.
He absolutely attacks holes in the line and when he sees a space he likes he goes after it.
Also, once he hits this hole his acceleration can explode him past defenders.
Add to this the fact that he sheds tacklers regularly and you have one of the premiere running backs going into college.
14. Bobby Hart, OT, St. Thomas Auquinas School (FL)
12 of 25
School: Florida State
Florida State, as you'll see, landed a lot on the offensive side of the ball during the recruiting process.
Offensive tackle Bobby Hart will become a central part of the team's plans.
At 6-foot-5, 298 pounds, Hart is already a big fella with the size to battle in the trenches at the collegiate level.
When Hart locks onto a defender from a standstill, it's usually over.
Combine that with the fact he has the agility and footwork to cover blitzing linebackers and you have yourself a potential star.
13. Devon Blackmon, WR/QB/RB, Summit HS (CA)
13 of 25
School: Oregon
Talk about a one-two punch.
Oregon has 2010 Heisman candidate LaMichael James and now they land Devon Blackmon?
Almost seems unfair.
Blackmon, who has drawn comparisons to Quan Bray, will be recruited to Oregon as a potential running back, Oregon seeing something in his fluidity and quickness.
Blackmon can also change direction quickly and wasn't a top return specialist for nothing, he can make defenders miss badly.
12. Nick O'Leary, TE, Dwyer HS (FL)
14 of 25
School: Florida State
What do you know, another Florida State recruit.
Florida native Nick O'Leary is one of the top tight ends in the draft, if not the top tight end.
The grandson of golf legend Jack Nicklaus, O'Leary has been exposed to greatness a time or two.
It appears to have translated to O'Leary's game.
Not only is O'Leary a physical player capable of run-blocking, he also has the athleticism to make tough catches in traffic and he runs good routes to boot.
11. Jay Rome, TE, Valdosta HS (GA)
15 of 25
School: Georgia
With A.J. Green off to the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Georgia has managed not only to get a top receiver, but also a five-star tight end.
Jay Rome very well could be the top tight end in this year's class.
He has solid height and bulk, is very strong, and he plucks the ball out of the air from all angles.
He can certainly be a weapon as a receiving tight end.
10. DeAnthony Thomas, RB/CB, Crenshaw HS (CA)
16 of 25
School: Oregon
De'Anthony Thomas, who played running back and cornerback in high school, will be recruited into Oregon after initially choosing USC.
First thing people should know, he's one of the best athletes in the country.
He has great burst, speed, and his quick cuts make him project as a top playmaker in college.
With his decisiveness and ability to change direction on a dime, Thomas has the ability to break off for huge runs in college and become a game-changer.
He was recruited by a multitude of schools.
9. Charone Peake, WR, Dorman HS (SC)
17 of 25
School: Clemson
One of the two top receivers in this year's draft, five-star recruit Charone Peake is one of the truly special players to be entering college next season.
Teams might not want to play man-to-man coverage on this guy for long periods at a time.
He's absolutely devastating in man coverage, can explode past defenders, and has the leaping ability to snag balls out of the air in dazzling fashion.
An athletic specimen that could also be worked into formations such as the "Wildcat."
He's also a good route runner and catches the ball on the run in stride.
8. George Farmer, WR, Junipero Serra HS (CA)
18 of 25
School: USC
George Farmer, thickly built with great speed, will be a great complement to running back DeAnthony Thomas.
USC cleaned up here folks.
Farmer's drawn comparison to Dallas Cowboys' receiver Dez Bryant due to his size and explosiveness.
His feet also change direction quickly and his strength and leaping ability make him a prime candidate to come down with jump balls.
He's also very fluid in his route-running.
7. Aaron Green, RB, James Madison HS (TX)
19 of 25
School: Nebraska
Congratulations Cornhuskers fans, you have one of your top running backs in years.
Not only does Aaron Green have elite speed, he's able to change direction while maintaining this speed.
The type of player where you think you have a sure tackle and next thing you know he's past you and sprinting for the end zone.
"Home run ability" is a good way to describe Green.
6. Jeff Driskel, QB, Paul J. Hagerty HS (FL)
20 of 25
School: Florida
Landing the top quarterback in the class, the Florida Gators have struck gold.
Not only does Jeff Driskel have a tremendous arm, he's a great athlete as well, with the ability to make big plays with his feet.
Can make the tough throw as well as the easy one and doesn't hesitate to sling the ball into a tight spot.
Has the game comparable to Tim Tebow.
Will he become the next Tebow?
We shall see.
5. La'El Collins, OT, Redemptorist HS (LA)
21 of 25
School: LSU
Grabbing a top receiver and top offensive lineman, LSU has set themselves up nicely for the coming years.
A few words come to mind when talking about La'El Collins: crushing, dominant, athletic, immediate starter, explosion, pancake block, tough, aggressive.
That doesn't even describe Collins completely.
It would be hard to see Collins not being an immediate force in college.
4. Malcolm Brown, RB, Byron M. Steele HS (TX)
22 of 25
School: Texas
Texas has the pleasure of having one of their own not only being a top recruit, but representing them in college.
At 6-foot, 215 pounds, Malcolm Brown probably has the best speed-to-size ratio in the entire class this year.
An ideal I-back runner, Brown can not only explode through tackles, he also can use his speed to outrun defenders in general.
Yards after the first hit are prevalent with this big fella.
Hold onto his ankles and don't let go.
3. Christian Westerman, OT, Hamilton HS (AZ)
23 of 25
School: Auburn
With good size and athleticism, Christian Westerman is one of the premiere offensive lineman in this year's class.
He has the strength to knock defenders backward, but also has the agility to deal with elusive defenders that use quick, shifty moves.
A complete lineman and determined as they come, constantly looking for second blocks down the field.
2. Isaiah Crowell, RB, Carver HS (GA)
24 of 25
School: Georgia
Alongside Malcolm Mitchell and Jay Rome, Isaiah Crowell completed Georgia's fearsome trio on Wednesday after all other recruits had signed.
Let's just say Georgia is looking good right now.
A bit small in size, but Crowell certainly doesn't play small.
He's an electric complete package as a running back, explosive and with jukes that put defenses to shame.
Great quickness and speed, combined with burst and ability to explode off tackles, makes Crowell an instant threat to the rest of the nation coming into college.
1. Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, DeMatha Catholic HS (MD)
25 of 25
School: Auburn
No Cameron Newton?
No problem!
Just land the two top offensive lineman in this year's class and plug your next quarterback in there: he'll do just fine.
At 6-foot-7, 325 pounds, Cyrus Kouandjio has probably sent Alabama coach Nick Saban crying somewhere after spurning the Crimson Tide and going with Auburn.
He's an absolute dominant run-blocker, with great agility and burst for his size, not to mention his strength, that can send incoming defenders flying backward.
His balance also keeps him in good position most of the time.
Kouandjio is an immediate starter at the collegiate level, and could become one of the star lineman in the nation.
