At the moment, Chelsea does not seem to be “at the top level,” and all the players he announced are in their 30's. In the present time his move to the capital looks like a silly decision.

Liverpool have a younger team and a slight advantage on youth development. Plus, they are rebuilding the squad as they have proved with their two new recruits.

Nevertheless, if Roman Abramovich—the owner of Chelsea, decides to splash the cash again in the summer transfer window, then I am sure Torres’s decision to leave Liverpool will be justified.

Liverpool FC

The new owner of Liverpool, John Henry, stated that he was going to use the statistical methods that they used with the Red Sox in order to obtain the best players without overpaying.

He managed to do this with Luis Suarez, a player who they had been monitoring for three years. What about Andy Carroll though?

Paying £36 million for a player who is in his first top flight season, and who is injured at the moment for another three weeks, seems ridiculous.

The January transfer window must have gotten to Henry, who once stated that, “When we spend a dollar it has to be wisely. Can that be successfully done in January? A number of people I have spoken with doubt it.”

The January transfer period often causes knee-jerk reactions. For a player that could have been bought in the summer for around £23 million, it seems that this was one of them.

English Premier League

Manchester United has kept their league lead and unbeaten run intact this season, by coming back to win and draw games at the brink. They have accomplished this so many times that it has to be given a name.

Well, last night, West Brom, Chelsea and Arsenal all did a “United” and came back from a deficit to gain points. Arsenal and Chelsea won their games, while West Brom gained a well-deserved point.

This has happened so many times this season because of each team underestimating each other. The fact is that the English Premier league is at its most competitive season since its establishment, which in turn, is creating a lot of exciting games.

Champions League

In less than two weeks the most prestigious cup competition in Europe gets under way. This is when the real competition actually begins. However, could anyone have predicted any other teams to reach the last 16?

As soon as the groups are announced at the beginning of the tournament, you immediately expect the big European clubs to proceed with ease.

From the 16 clubs currently in the knockout stage, only FC København could be considered as a surprise.

However, the group stage is not the only predictable phase of the tournament.

Because of the seedings that each team is given, the bigger teams have an easier road to the quarter-finals.

My pick to progress are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man. United, Chelsea, AS Roma, Valencia FC and Bayern Munich.

The only wild cards are AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.
