Brent Calloway Announcement: What It Means for Alabama Football
Wow. We told you that National Signing Day would be full of shockers. Brent Calloway, the top player in Alabama, has reverted back to his original commitment of Alabama.
We were shocked when Calloway de-committed from the Tide at the Army All-American game and chose Auburn. But there was always something a bit off about the decision, like it was an emotional decision. "I appreciate Auburn for recruiting me..." said Calloway.
Calloway seemed miffed that 'Bama wanted him strictly as a linebacker where as he wanted to play running back. They had a disagreement and he chose to de-commit. John Rose and Kiehl Frazier stayed in Calloway's ear about Auburn and he chose to follow them to become a Tiger.
Yet, locals in Russelville kept urging Calloway to re-commit the Tide and the more he thought about it, the more he realized that Tuscaloosa was a better fit. "My heart never left Alabama...Alabama has been my home since I started this process." stated Calloway.
The 6'1", 210 pounder played more running back this past season, but should become a great, versatile outside linebacker for Nick Saban. He has great instincts and could even see time at strong safety because he's so instinctive in the box.
Calloway also has great athleticism and play speed which will allow him to be a great third down and sub package linebacker in coverage schemes. He can turn and run with tight ends and running backs out of the backfield and is very aware in zone coverages.
Alabama likely will have the top recruiting class in the country and Calloway's pledge is a crucial get for the Tide, but they're not done yet.
