World Transfer Rumors: 10 Players Most Likely To Be On The Move

James WillisJun 7, 2018

With the January transfer window nearly closed, there are still many transfers that could be made.

The amount of rumours and reports that have come out today are through the roof as each club tries to ensure that they get the player's they need to end the season on a high note.

There have however been some persistent rumours right through the transfer window that will either be just wrapping up now or ending up being proved as absolute nonsense.

Here is a list of the 10 players who are most likely on the move over the remaining hours of the transfer deadline day, today.

Charlie Adam

Current Club: Blackpool

Likely Destination: Liverpool

Explanation: The Blackpool midfielder has been the subject of much intense speculation right through this month with Liverpool lodging a fair number of different bids for the player.

Ian Holloway has repeatedly said that he will not sell Charlie Adam for any less than the right price and that he will not let the bigger club's push Blackpool around.

With Liverpool struggling again to reclaim their place in the top four, the signing of a strong, creative midfielder like Charlie Adam looks very likely.

Luis Suarez

Current Club: Ajax

Likely Destination: Liverpool

Explanation: The fee has already been agreed and personal terms are also thought to have already been agreed. That means that the only reason the signing hasn't officially been announced yet is something to do with his medical.

As soon as Suarez passes his medical (which he almost certainly will), Liverpool will be able to announce the arrival of their new striker.

In fact, by the time this is published and you are reading this it may even have already been announced.

Current Club: Aston Villa

Likely Destination: Newcastle

Explanation: Having agreed on a transfer, the latest news of Stephen Ireland going to Newcastle was him undergoing a medical.

While the transfer is only expected to be a loan move, the midfielder looks set to help the northern club push on to retain their place in the Premier League for next season.

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 11: Newcastle United Manager Alan Pardew issues instructions to Andy Carroll of Newcastle United during the Barclays Premier League match between Newcastle United and Liverpool at St James' Park on December 11, 201

Current Club: Newcastle

Likely Destination: Liverpool/Tottenham

Explanation: This transfer has come as a bit of a surprise as the young England striker has mainly been linked with Tottenham and all bids have been rejected by Newcastle.

Tottenham are still looking for a new striker, and after the news filtered through that no bid had been lodged for Diego Forlan, the odds of Tottenham moving for Andy Carroll shortened significantly.

In terms of Liverpool, the Merseyside club are also interested in securing the services of another striker and they are understood to have lodged a second giant bid for the Newcastle player. It has also been reported that Andy Carroll is keen on a move to Anfield.

Update: Liverpool has completed a £35 million record signing of the English international

Fernando Torres

Current Club: Liverpool

Likely Destination: Chelsea

Explanation: Some reports have suggested that Torres is in London today, most likely to have talks with Chelsea, while other sources have suggested that he's staying put.

While no news has been confirmed, Liverpool's search for a big-name striker to add to the club on top of the signing of Luis Suarez, may be an indication that an agreement has been reached for the sale of the World Cup winning star.

It would be a big transfer and big news, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Update: Fernando Torres has joined Chelsea for a record £50 million fee

James Beattie

Current Club: Glasgow Rangers

Likely Destination: Blackpool

Explanation: Admittedly one of the less interesting transfers that could still be done, but it is thought that Beattie is on his way to a loan move to Blackpool.

The latest reports are that the striker has been having a medical at the club, and any announcement is expected to be made soon.

While it may not be the most attractive transfer, it definitely seems like one of the most certain.

Ryan Babel

Current Club: Liverpool

Likely Destination: Hoffenheim

Explanation: There have been very few specific rumours today about Ryan Babel, but that is largely because the media have focused on who Liverpool will be signing and whether Fernando Torres will be leaving.

This transfer has pushed on right through the January transfer window and it could well be completed today.

The latest updates on the transfer would probably be found on Babel's infamous twitter page, @RyanBabel.

Sebastian Larsson

Current Club: Birmingham City

Likely Destination: Manchester City/Newcastle United

Explanation: Although the latest reports are that no bid has been received from Manchester City for Sebastian Larsson, today has been so topsy turvy that the transfer may still happen before the end of the day.

Newcastle have also been interested for a long time and if the signing of Stephen Ireland falls through for one reason or another, expect them to step up their pursuit of Larsson.

Nicolas Anelka

Current Club: Chelsea

Likely Destination: Liverpool

Explanation: While Liverpool are apparently closing in on Andy Carroll, their have been no reports set in stone of that transfer.

Rumours also suggest that Fernando Torres is in London to talk to Chelsea, making this move more likely as a possible swap deal.

It has been rumoured that Nicolas Anelka may join Liverpool throughout the transfer window, and with Torres looking ever more likely to eventually leave for Chelsea, Anelka may return to the club he joined on loan in 2002.

Phil Neville

Current Club: Everton

Likely Destination: Tottenham

Explanation: There have been numerous reports focussing on Tottenham's attempts to sign a striker this transfer window but little news of the club's bid to sign full back Phil Neville.

While the club's first bid was rejected, the rumours of a transfer here just won't go away and some places have even reported that Tottenham are putting together one final bid for Neville to try and secure his services before the end of the day.

With much of the media focussing elsewhere, don't be surprised if this deal is done quickly and smoothly.
