Possible Buckeyes Still Up for Grabs in the 2012 Class

Billy GeorgeAug 25, 2011

College football is just around the corner and regardless of your team's status, it's pump up time come September. The Ohio State Buckeyes will kick off their season in just nine days and fans nationwide are pumped. While some are fearful of what may happen with all the recent changes in the football program, others are confident and anticipated.

With or without the possible sanctions on the Ohio State football program, the philosophy is always the same: Reload, reload, reload! After already signing the QB of their future (Braxton Miller), Luke Fickell and the Ohio State Buckeyes look to start the dawn of a new era with fresh young talent. This may be more difficult than it has been in recent years without Jim Tressel as the head coach and recruits (like Kyle Kalis) de-committing, but if any team can reel in raw talent in the midst of uncertainties it's Ohio State.

So while naysayers are looking at the losses of the Buckeye football program, such as Jim Tressel, Terrelle Pryor and 14 starters from the 2010 squad, let's look at what Ohio State might gain and take a peak at who could possibly commit to (and have gotten scholarship offers from) the Bucks and soon put on the scarlet and gray!  Isn't optimism what makes college football exciting anyway?

The recruits on this slide show are listed in chronological order by where they rank national position wise and there is a highlight video on each slide. Enjoy!

Dorial Green-Beckham Highlights against Marshfield

At 6'6" 220 lbs and the skill set similar to former Georgia Bulldog receiver A.J. Green, Dorial Green-Beckham has gotten nationwide attention and scholarship offers from just about every major college football team. He has a medium interest in the Buckeyes

Schools of interest: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Mississippi, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, USC

#3 OG Jordan Simmons

2 of 17

Big bodied, broad shouldered, strong, and quick with his feet, Simmons has big time potential. In Pac-12 country (Encino, California) he has offers and is interested in seven of the Pac-12 schools. However that doesn't take away the interest he has in the Ohio State University.

Schools of interest: Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, BYU, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Miami (Fl), Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington

#3 OLB/DE Ifeadi Odenigbo

3 of 17

In Ohio State's back yard, Centerville High School star Ifeadi Odenigbo would be a jewel in this recruiting class for Ohio State if he decides to sign with the Bucks. If he doesn't, however, it will be another heart breaking Ohio recruit that slipped out of Ohio State's hands.

Schools of interest: California, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, UCLA

#3 DE Adolphus Washington

4 of 17

Five-star defensive end Adolphus Washington is a flat out beast on the D-line and has become a bona fide sack artist. Washington is one of the top players in the country out of Cincinnati, Ohio and is definitely a guy that the Bucks don't want to leave Ohio.

Schools of interest: Alabama, Kentucky, Miami (Fl), Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Boston College, Florida, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, USC

#4 RB Rushel Shell

5 of 17

A downhill runner with great speed, quick feet and shifty moves, Pennsylvania native Rushel Shell is the third running back targeted by the scarlet and gray. After capturing a verbal commitment from highly touted Brionte Dunn and Warren Ball, Shell isn't a must get for the Buckeyes but he's definitely got a spark that they haven't overlooked.

Schools Of Interest: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia

#4 OLB Deaysean Rippy

6 of 17

Deaysean Rippy is a tackling machine out of Mc Kees Rocks, Pennsylvania who is excellent at blitzing the quarterback and is a decent coverage man as well. Rippy is a flashy player who covers a lot of the field and makes tackles in space. Buckeye fans can only hope that if he plays in the Horse Shoe he won't be playing against them.

Schools of interest: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, Florida State, Iowa, LSU, Maryland, Miami (Fl), Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pittsburgh, UCLA, USC, West Virginia, Wisconsin

#10 OT Jordan Diamond

7 of 17

Native of Chicago, Illinois, five-star Tommy Schutt is not only big and strong, he knows what to do with his size and strength. Whether his duty is to pave the way for a running back or sit back in pass protection, he frustrates opposing defensive lineman game in and game out.

Schools of interest: Arizona, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Miami (Fl), Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Wisconsin

#13 S Demetrious Cox

8 of 17

A three-year starter and two-year team captain from Jeannette high school in Pennsylvania, Cox has great instincts and a knack for occupying the ball. He is good in coverage as well as locating the ball carrier. Former Jeannette stars Terrelle Pryor and Jordan Hall chose to commit to the Buckeyes. Will Cox follow in their footsteps?

Schools of interest: Alabama, Arizona State, Boston College, Connecticut, Duke, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, LSU, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin

#15 RB Greg Garmon

9 of 17

Another stud recruit out of the state of Pennsylvania, Greg Garmon has all the skills needed to be successful at the next level. Will that next level be at Ohio State? We'll have to wait and see

Schools of interest: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, West Virginia

#16 S Deon Bush

10 of 17

Miami, Florida prospect Deon Bush is a crazy talented safety in the secondary who is also good in run support. Hopefully one day he will be good in Bucks support!

#24 WR D'Vario Montgomery

12 of 17

D'vario Montgomery is a deep-threat wide receiver out of Winter Park, Florida who has a similar skill set to Ohio State's Devier Posey. He is shifty off the line of scrimmage with a quick initial burst, he is sure handed and elusive.

School's of interest: Alabama, Florida, Florida International, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa, LSU, Miami (Fl), Ohio State, Rutgers, South Carolina, South Florida, Tennessee, UCF, Wake Forest, West Virginia

#30 QB Robert Gregory

13 of 17

Robert Gregory is a dual-threat QB out of Illinois who has similar skills to the Buckeye's Kenny Guiton. Though Ohio State will have Braxton Miller for the next couple of years, depth is always a good thing to have.

Schools of interest: Arizona, Ball State, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Miami (Fl), Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Toledo, Wisconsin

#26 S Bam Bradley

14 of 17

Bam fit's this strong safety's name very well. The hard hitter from Trotwood-Madison High School in Trotwood Ohio is widely known and has offers to play at any location in the country he likes.

Schools of interest: Arizona, Boston College, Florida, Illinois, Louisville, Miami (Fl), Michigan State, Missouri, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

#35 WR Cyrus Jones

15 of 17

Maryland receiver Cyrus Jones is another speedster that has been compared to former Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin. Though he's a bit undersized, he has the potential to make a significant impact wherever he goes.

Schools of interest: Alabama, Arizona State, Boston College, Connecticut, Duke, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, LSU, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin

#36 WR Monty Madaris

16 of 17

Cincinnati Moeller star wide receiver Monty Madaris has had multiple achievements on and off the football field. With a decent size (6'2" 190 lbs), good hands and improvising ability with the football in his hands, Madaris has what it takes to be a major contributor at a major university.

Schools of interest: Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Syracuse, Wisconsin

#37 WR Dwayne Stanford

17 of 17

Last but not least we have Dwayne Stanford, who is another stud Ohio prospect attracting national attention. The 6'4" 195 lbs highly sought after WR (though he isn't a speedster) is a great deep threat and a red zone terror who possesses great hands.

Schools of interest: Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida State, LSU, Miami (Fl), Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Stanford, Texas Tech, USC
