Transfer News: Van Bommel To AC Milan, Benfica and Chelsea Nearly Finalise Deal

Tom KellyJan 25, 2011

Chelsea have posted a big new offer for the 23-year-old centre-back, David Luiz.

Benfica will receive €25million alongside either 19-year-old Italian striker Fabio Borini, 22-year-old Serbian international midfielder Nemanja Matic, 21-year-old fellow Serbian international call-up centre-back Slobodan Rajkovic or Dutch left-back 20-year-old Patrick van Aanholt, each of these young men are valued at roughly €5million.

Benfica have reportedly accepted this proposal and a medical exam will be conducted on Tuesday in the English capital, with Chelsea already applying for a permit so Luiz can work in the country. This large amount shows Ancelotti's faith in the future of this young player. It is unclear at this time which of the young Chelsea players Benfica will take, none of them have played much football for the Chelsea first team, however, both the young Serbians, Nemanja Matic and Slobodan Rajkovic are currently on loan at Vitesse in the Netherland's Eredivisie (first division), where they have been starting regularly, while young Patrick van Aanholt is currently on loan at  Barclay's Premier League side Newcastle United.

Mark Van Bommel has requested his contract be terminated with his side of four years, Bayern Munich, so he can join current Serie A leaders AC Milan. The Dutch midfielder has made 123 appearances for Bayern Munich, contributing 11 goals. He also has plenty of national side experience with 66 games for the Netherlands, playing for them in the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa. He was also recently named the Dutch captain. Bert van Marwijk, the manager of the Netherlands national team, also happens to be his father-in-law. Despite his age, the 33 year old is likely to find a spot in the AC Milan starting 11, a side which has put together a strong mix of older, experienced players and young talents like Alexandre Pato. Mark Van Bommel is the second Dutch signing for AC Milan in January, who have also recently signed defender Urby Emanuelson from Dutch side Ajax.
