Luis Suarez To Liverpool Deal Breaks Down: What Are the Possible Options Now ?
Het Parool of Netherlands broke a few million Liverpool hearts yesterday when they reported that Liverpool's bid for Ajax striker Luis Suarez had collapsed. The newspaper reports that Liverpool were not ready to up the bid significantly enough for Ajax's liking. The Dutch outfit held on to their 29.8m GBP bid and thus the deal could not go through.
With just days left before the transfer window comes to a close, Liverpool should be now expected to move on and look for greener pastures unless the Uruguayan himself presses the Dutch outfit by handing in a transfer request or John Henry decides to do some major spending!
However, what seems significant from the entire saga is that Liverpool were still ready to pay some 15m-20m euros, so they are going to spend some money hopefully and if the Reds really don't want to pursue the bid any further, a few other deals now seem very likely especially with Ryan Babel too now off to TSG Hoffenheim for a good 7m.
Here I have put in a list of players who could now attract Liverpool interest in the latest scheme of things.
Shaun Wright-Phillips: When You Need Pace
1 of 5
He may not be the first choice of Liverpool at 29 and Fulham may compete for his signature too, but if Manchester City are bent on selling the England International, Liverpool could well be a destination for Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The Red fans may irk at this name, but judging by the money that FSG has on offer in the window Shaun Wright-Phillips would provide dual benefits if bought, besides his low price tag.
First of all, the guy is a speedster, something which Liverpool desperately need, secondly he seems to have a good 2-3 years of football left in him so therefore he could pave the way for the academy youngsters like Suso and Sterling as he fades out.
All of the above makes him a good bargain option, though he may take a few matches to get started as he has been on the bench for quite long now.
Charlie Adam: Ready to Change Pools?
2 of 5
Reports of Liverpool interest took shape as Charlie Adam has already handed in a transfer request yesterday, only to be turned down, though, because the Reds were seemingly offering a paltry sum of 5m GBP and Blackpool rating the player good enough to deserve what Liverpool offered Suarez!!
However, with little time left and no enforcements yet Liverpool may yet negotiate a deal with Blackpool and now after Babel's departure a bid of the range of say a 6.5-7m seems likely! But whether that would be enough for the Bloomfield road outfit remains to be seen.
Niko Kranjcar: The Desperate Croat
3 of 5
In what could be a much cheaper alternative to the Holloway's valuation of Charlie Adam, Niko Kranjcar could well be a gamble worth it if Liverpool are really mindful of strengthening their midfield.
Harry Redknapp has reportedly agreed to let the skillful player leave for about 5m after having snapped him for 3m less on deadline day in the summer of 2009.
The move, although not doing the rounds in the rumor market at the moment, was the first reported rumor by NESN after the new owners took over and may well be a reality if Blackpool decide not to budge from their demands.
Charles N'Zogbia: To Empower the Reds Wings ?
4 of 5
Liverpool have reportedly watched this 24-year-old Frenchman a lot! Dalglish is himself thought to be very keen on the player, however, the deal looked unlikely to happen this window as Wigan had slapped a massive 15m GBP price tag on the player, whereas Liverpool wanted him for much less.
However, now if the Luis Suarez deals breaks down then Liverpool may well gain the financial muscle to get through with this deal. N'Zogbia has been extremely impressive for the Latics ever since he joined them in what turned to be another dramatic winter transfer window from Newcastle.
Liverpool though may have to compete with Sunderland to sign N'Zogbia and that may well mean that having to pay about 10m GBP for the winger is not an impossibility!
Latics manager Roberto Martinez though has kept aloof from any such speculation. He spoke of the speculation as " a lie."
Charles N'Zogbia, though, has meanwhile a record 61 successful dribbles to his credit this so far, more than anybody else in the Premier League this season.
Alvaro Negredo: Forging a Spanish Attack ?
5 of 5
In what could be a much less glamorous transfer affair for Liverpool FC after the massive hype and hoopla regarding Luis Suarez, Alvaro Negredo could well land up in a Red shirt for Liverpool if things stand as they are.
Negredo, though a few years older than Liverpool's reported No. 1 target, has played at a more competitive League in La Liga and after disappointing for the Galacticos has now hit a purple patch with Sevilla.
However, Liverpool may still have to fork out as much as 15m euros (if not more) for the player at this late stage in the transfer window if Sevilla are indeed interested in doing business now.
If bought, Negredo would add to the already existing Spanish contingent at Liverpool FC and his pairing upfront with Torres could be an interesting one still.
