Jeoffrey Pagan Commits To Clemson Over Florida, Georgia and Alabama

Michael PintoJan 17, 2011

Five-star defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan committed to Clemson over the weekend at the conclusion of his official visit during his exit interview with coach Dabo Swinney.

Originally committed to Florida, Pagan decommitted from the Gators in December shortly before Urban Meyer's unexpected resignation as head coach and opened things up to a host of schools that included Alabama, Georgia, LSU, North Carolina, NC State and of course Clemson.

While Florida had been Pagan's school for months, after his decommitment and the departure of Meyer, Clemson jumped into the driver's seat and never relinquished it.

For the Tigers, the grab is huge and adds some defensive muscle to a class that's heavily unbalanced on the offensive side of the ball.

One of the best strongside defensive ends in the country, Pagan didn't even start playing the position until his junior season and immediately looked like a natural out there who'd been at it for years.

He's strong, athletic and gets into the backfield in a hurry regardless of where he lines up. He's still very raw and needs to be polished, which means a redshirt year might be in his best interest, but the potential is there.

Pagan can play defensive tackle or stay at end, it's all up to the coaches to decide how to use him.

With five-star running back Mike Bellamy and five-star receivers Sammy Watkins and Charone Peake already in place along with a lot of other offensive firepower, Clemson can now turn it's attention to five-star outside linebacker Tony Steward; the top prospect in the country at his position.

With Steward essentially down to a choice between Clemson and Florida State, there's a good chance he'll be lining up behind Pagan in 2011.

For now, the Tigers can relax knowing they've at least won one battle.
