One Not So Small Step For Man: The Worst Missed Calls In Basketball History

Ethan BackJun 7, 2018

In recent times on the basketball courts, refs have been very lenient on players. In the NBA especially, players have been getting away with traveling violations, double-dribbles, and palming more than ever before. Some calls can be bang-bang, and the refs have to make a call or let it slide right away, but other calls are inexcusably missed. A notorious case of a player defending his case was LeBron James's "crab dribble," which he shamelessly stood by after the game. The NBA, along with NCAA hoops, has had several blatant non-calls, unlike the LeBron instance, and these videos make for a good laugh... unless of course you were the opponent.

20. Steve Francis Gettin' Fancy

1 of 20

A classic case of referees being awestruck. You gotta admit, that was a sweet dunk.

19. Dunking Makes Everything Alright

2 of 20

I guess if you're going up for a dunk, then whatever you do before it is okay. You can't really blame the refs for watching in amazement and taking a moment or two off from the job.

18. Delonte Gets Far

3 of 20

I'm not sure how many calls were missed on this play. More importantly, Delonte is now on the Celtics, LeBron is on the Heat, and that leaves the Cavaliers with nobody mentioned in this clip... or just flat-out nobody. Ouch.

17. Andre Miller In The End Zone!

4 of 20

Andre Miller looks a bit like a wide receiver in this clip. He certainly got a few feet down before he lost possession of the ball...

16. Ballroom Dancin' Dan

5 of 20

Dan Majerle wasn't known for his dancing skills, but in this video he shows that he definitely knows how to shuffle his feet.

15. Rondo Imitation

6 of 20

Rondoesque, minus the steps.

14. Nice Hops, 'Bron!

7 of 20

LeBron really seems to think that being athletic excuses him from the NBA rule book. No crab dribble here, but no call either.

13. The Big Fundamental Gone Wrong

8 of 20

Even in this low-quality video, you can clearly see the shuffling of Tim Duncan's feet. Not living up to your nickname, Mr. Duncan!

12. Tyler Hansbrough

9 of 20

Blatant travel, but the Rihanna in the background kinda gets your mind off of the basketball. Right?

11. Even The Matrix Walks

10 of 20

Shawn Marion was eager to dunk here. A little too eager, and he forgot to put the ball on the floor. The refs, however, didn't seem to mind.

10. The Big Ticket

11 of 20

Looks like the Big Ticket used his nickname to travel a little bit too much here...

9. And One... And Steps

12 of 20

As Kobe haters can agree, regardless of what he does, he always seems to come out on top. This is a prime example.

8. The Big Traveler

13 of 20

Shaq used those size 22s a little too much in this instance.

7. Three-In-One

14 of 20

What's funnier: the Spanish commentating, the travel itself, or the music? Whatever you choose, you can't go wrong.

6. Take The Bus Next Time, Corey

15 of 20

Corey Maggette traveled... about 50 times. Someone should have notified him that the bus was arriving in just 20 minutes, and he could have called a taxi if he really needed to travel that badly.

5. Maybe In Turkey...

16 of 20

Hedo Turkoglu seems insistent upon picking up the ball every time it comes back up. Not on this side of the pond.

4. Manu Ginobili FTW

17 of 20

People like to say that they don't like when refs decide the game. I'd bet the Bucks would disagree.

3. Putting The

18 of 20

This video puts me in a dream-like trance. Try to concentrate, though, and you'll notice the two separate instances of traveling.

2. Mr. Big Walk

19 of 20

Just listen to Scott Van Pelt and Neil Everett.

1. Up And Under (With A Few Steps In Between)

20 of 20

Maybe the reason why LeBron is so good is because he is exempt from being called for traveling. Hey, it's a possibility.
