Begin your Hoke jokes now! While everyone will certainly have fun with Hoke's name and physical stature over the coming months, Buckeye Nation better realize he won't run the same circus up in Ann Arbor that Rodriguez did (not that anyone could match the damage RichRod inflicted on Michigan football in three years). In fact, I was pretty impressed by his statements at his introductory press conference today.
"We want to live up to the traditions and the legacies and high regard. We understand what Michigan football is.
…This is never going to be about Brady Hoke. This is a about a program. This is about a team."
The guy has Michigan roots and understands the tradition. He even emphasized the importance of winning the Big Ten and beating Ohio State, even trying his best Woody impression calling the Buckeyes "that school in Ohio." On a side note, he does need to realize that Woody refused to even say the word "Michigan," so his attempt was a little sad. Anyway, the guy is solid and will put a quality product on the field.
What is really interesting is how torn people seem to be on the hire. Some fans are going a bit overboard calling him "Michigan's Tressel," which is a bit comical. Others are upset that Michigan can't pull in a top profile coach and have to settle for a guy like Hoke. Take the Detroit Free Press' Drew Sharp for instances:
"They couldn't get Jim Harbaugh. They apparently weren't comfortable with what Les Miles required, or vice versa. They couldn't get the "can't miss star" who leaves eyes wide and tongues wagging, so they will find comfort in the guy determined to give them what they can specifically appreciate."
Well I guess we'll see. Dave Brandon will either be a hero or the most hated man in Ann Arbor for this hire.

No more Tater Tot. Well not only did the Wolverines rid themselves of an embarrassing coach, but can now also say goodbye to one of the biggest running jokes in Columbus, Tate Forcier.
"Sophomore quarterback Tate Forcier is not enrolled in classes for the Winter 2011 semester at the University of Michigan, according to a representative in the University’s Office of the Registrar.
"Forcier, a sport management major in the School of Kinesiology, was academically ineligible to play in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla. on Jan. 1."
Well, I guess we will always have his five turnover performance to remember him by, and this.
Who exactly is playing against Akron? The Buckeyes are racking up the suspensions for the 2011 season. With the Tat Five and Jordan Whiting already missing considerable time, Dorian Bell seems to have added his name to list. Dave Biddle reported this via Twitter yesterday:
"OSU linebacker Dorian Bell suspended two games for repeat violation of team rule. Was suspended for Sugar Bowl and will also miss Akron."
Good thing Akron went 1-11 last year.
Your dead to us Herbie! After his final AP Ballot, where he voted the Buckeyes ninth, we officially refuse to consider him a Buckeye any longer. We've been trying to give Herbstreit the benefit of the doubt, hoping he was just erring on the side of being objective, but it's clear now he is just stupid. Check out his entire ballot and tell me he isn't a moron!
