Michigan Football: Brandon's Plane En Route to LA, Will Hoke Take the Job?
The search continues.
The Dominos Falcon Jet which carried Dave Brandon to Baton Rouge Monday is currently headed to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.
Brandon will most likely meet with Michigan coaching candidate Brady Hoke. All indications point to Hoke actually receiving the job offer. Michigan was already rejected by Jim Harbaugh and Les Miles, who decided earlier today to remain at LSU.
“I am pleased to announce that Les Miles will remain the head coach at LSU,” said Joe Alleva, LSU athletic director. “Les has led this program to many great successes on the field and his players represent LSU well off the field. We look forward to many great years of LSU football under his leadership.”
Harbaugh accepted a lucrative offer from the San Francisco 49ers to coach the NFL team.
Hoke, like both Harbaugh and Miles, fits the description of a so-called Michigan man. He coached the defensive line for Lloyd Carr's Michigan team from 1995-2002 before taking the head coaching job at Ball State in 2003. Hoke suffered through four losing seasons before earning bowl berths in 2007 and 2008.
He took the San Diego State job in 2009, finishing 4-9 in his first season before earning a Poinsettia Bowl berth this past season with a 8-4 overall mark and a 5-3 Mountain West record.
San Diego State won the Poinsettia bowl game with a 35-14 win over Navy.
Hoke has always looked at the Michigan position as his “dream job.” Reportedly, he has already talked to Brandon.
The Dominos plane is expected to land in Orange County at 6:36 p.m. EST this evening. Hoke is in the Los Angeles area supposedly on a recruiting trip.
