Notre Dame Football: Aaron Lynch Decommits from FSU

Jim SheridanJan 8, 2011

Hours after punishing the West in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Arron Lynch who was a one-time verbal commitment to Notre Dame, decommitted from Florida State. For those who have not kept up to speed on the Lynch saga here is a recap.

Aaron Lynch is a 6'6", 245-pound defensive end out of Cape Coral, Florida. His size, speed (4.6) and nasty knack for creating havoc on opposing offenses have made him one of the most sought-after defensive recruits in this cycle.

In July Lynch committed to the Fighting Irish, in October he decommitted and committed to Florida State in November. On Friday Lynch stated that he is going to visit Notre Dame next week. Tonight he decommitted from FSU.

Shortly after the Army All-American Bowl it was reported that Lynch would meet with coaches from Florida State and Notre Dame and make a decision later on Saturday night. He did, but instead of choosing a school he re-opened the door to Notre Dame. Lynch is being recruited by Tony Alford.

It was never a secret that Lynch's mother was extremely impressed with Notre Dame—that's why his decommit in October came as a surprise—but when Florida State kept pursuing other defensive ends things became a little hairy.

Lynch is scheduled to make a visit to South Bend later this week. Lynch's decision to make an announcement tonight could have been seen as good or bad; FSU starts classes on Monday. While his decommit from FSU does not guarantee anything, it sure is a good sign. Visit South Bend, commit, return home to pack and back for class next Monday.

If Lynch comes to South Bend, this defense just got even better than it was last week. Te'o, Tuitt, Nix, Lynch. Even with 36 inches of snow in South Bend since Friday morning, the sun just got a little brighter over the Golden Dome.
