Today increases the interest in Doha, as players at the Qatar Open 2011 enter the quarterfinals. The winners will be playing for the title of the first tournament of the 2011 season.

Just now, Roger Federer beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 7-6(2). Even though the second set came to a tie-break, Federer looked in top form and is expected to compete well in the final on Saturday.

He is set to play either Rafael Nadal or Nikolay Davydenko, depending on the outcome of the match between the world’s number one and the defending Qatar Open champion.

Yesterday, Roger Federer beat the Serbian Viktor Troicki 6-2, 6-2. Even though he only took four of the 16 break points from the Serbian’s serve, Federer finished strong and dominated the match in straight sets.

Of the match, Federer remarked, “I really thought I saw the ball a bit better. From my side, I'm really happy the way I was able to keep Troicki on the back foot, make him feel like he didn't know what was coming his way.”

Rafael Nadal overcame a virus to beat the Latvian Ernests Gulbis 7-6, 6-3, securing his place in the semi finals at Qatar. The world’s top player took a break in the opening set and called for a doctor, citing that he was perspiring more than was normal.

Nadal will now take on defending champion Nikolay Davydenko to see if he will compete in the final after Davydenko’s defeat of Ivo Karlovic 6-3, 7-5 yesterday.
