Hodgson and Ancelotti Set For The Sack As Chelsea and Liverpool Lose
It was a strange night for the Premier league as none of the top sides managed to pick up results. Arsenal and Man City drew 0-0 and Tottenham lost to Everton 2-1.
But the two men most worried about the nights results will be Roy Hodgson and Carlo Ancelotti.
Chelsea slumped to a new low as they lost to Wolves 1-0 and Liverpool were outplayed away in Blackburn, losing 3-1. The result leaves Chelsea sitting fifth, nine points away from Manchester United at the top. Liverpool’s situation looks even more bleak with the reds now twelfth in the league almost twenty points behind United and even more worryingly only four points above the drop zone.
Liverpool found themselves two-nil down at half time after goals by Benjani and Martin Olsson. Benjani got his second in the 57th minute leaving the Reds with a mountain to climb. Steven Gerrard got a goal back, but he then missed a penalty to add to the misery.
Chelsea lost out 1-0 with the only goal being a Jose Boswinga own goal. Wolves were bottom of the table before the match but the win moves them out of the relegation zone.
Liverpool fans have been calling for Hodgon’s sacking for sometime now and the loss to Blackburn could be the final nail in the coffin.
In December Liverpool were beaten by Newcastle and Wolves and rumours have suggested the Anfield Hierachy could already be looking at replacements.
Since the sacking of Ray Wilkins, Chelsea have hit a poor run of form and Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he isn’t sure why he hasn’t been dismissed yet. Lacking strength in depth and looking a shade of the side that dominated the league early on the blues title hopes are fading away.
For Liverpool it seems it may finally be time to let Hodgson go. He had great success with Fulham but he hasn’t delivered at the bigger club. New signings such as Christian Poulson and Paul Konchesky have been disappointing and defeats to smaller clubs cannot be ignored. It will now be interesting to see who Liverpool will look to, to change their fortunes if Hodgson is sacked.
Chelsea need new signings quickly to bolster their side. This is the only way Carlo Ancelotti can save their deteriorating season or he might find himself loosing his job too.
Liverpool look set to miss out on the Champions League again this season and Chelsea are currently fifth. With these two sides on the slide, Manchester City and Tottenham will be more than happy to claim the remaining European places. Meanwhile it appears Arsenal and Man United will be fighting between themselves for the EPL title.
