Sugar Bowl 2011 Video: Watch Arkansas Block The Buckeyes in New Orleans

Trae ThompsonJan 5, 2011

Ohio State was about to punt and Arkansas would get one final chance to score and complete their amazing comeback.

The Razorbacks got a huge break, though, when Cotton Miles-Nash blocked Ben Buchnan's punt.

Ryan Mallett and the Arkansas offense then got the ball back at the Ohio State 18-yard line with 1:09 on the clock. The drive lasted only two plays, as Solomon Thomas intercepted Mallett's pass and clinched a 31-26 victory in the Sugar Bowl on Tuesday at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

"We practice it all the time,'' Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said of the block. "It was very, very well executed. Coach Smith had a great plan to go get it. We were going to take a shot in the second half on blocking one. We got it done, and unfortunately we weren't able to scoop and score."

It was shocking enough to see the Razorbacks fall behind like they did, but as they made their comeback, you had to think they had the momentum and would pull out the victory. When I saw the punt blocked, my first thought was, "There we go. Ballgame. Mallett's got this."

The last thing I thought was that I'd see him throw an interception.

Mallett's expected to be one of the first quarterbacks taken in the NFL Draft, but he hasn't said yet if he's decided to leave early. If that's the case, it's a sad way to end what became a very successful college career.

Mallett began at Michigan as one of the most heralded high school quarterbacks in the nation, but he transferred to Arkansas after his freshman year. He sat out, per NCAA rules, but you knew he would be a perfect fit for Bobby Petrino's offense.

Everything was set up just perfectly for Mallett to end his career with a dramatic come-from-behind win. The block itself was pretty impressive. That's what you're supposed to see—big-time plays being made in big-time games.

Ohio State just managed to come back with one of their own. And it was a game-winner.
