College Football Rankings: The Big East Conference Is a Disgrace

Mikey HendersonJan 5, 2011

Come on, man.

Can anybody outside of Big East team fans honestly disagree?

The Big Least has two halfway respectable teams: Louisville and West Virginia. Those two schools need to get out, and go join a real conference, like the Big Sky or the Southern Conference.

I feel really bad for TCU. They should have stayed in the Mountain West. Honestly, they should have. They say they left because they wanted to get more exposure. But had they stayed, they would be playing Boise State every year.

Don't you think that would get a huge number of views?

I mean, the champion of this conference (UConn) beat a tied-for-second place team (USF) by a field goal. How did USF do? They got destroyed 38-14 by a Florida Gators team that had its fourth worst offensive season since World War II.

Anybody here think Florida deserves a BCS Bowl bid?

Anybody think a team worse than Florida deserves one?

That wasn't all of USF's disgrace. No, they fought for their lives to beat Western Kentucky 24-12, lost to a Pitt team that fired their coach (Not Haywood, I'm talking about Wannstedt), lost to Syracuse and lost by two TD's to WVU.

But back to UConn: Somebody please explain to me how a team that lost to Temple by two TD's, to Michigan by three TD's, got blanked 26-0 by Louisville, and lost TO A 4-8 RUTGERS TEAM deserves a BCS Bowl bid.

Remember that Michigan got completely demolished 52-14 by MISSISSIPPI STATE.

Remember that Temple lost to a Penn State team that lost to Florida, Illinois and four other teams.

This is a team that can win its conference and get a BCS invite immediately?

As expected, they got manhandled 48-20 by Oklahoma.

And the sad thing?

It could have been so much worse.

If anybody opposes this argument, then I am going to write an article claiming that the Gators belonged in a BCS Bowl. Or better yet, Mississippi State. Why not? They crushed a Michigan team that blasted UConn. Mississippi State is leagues better than UConn.

But it wasn't just this year.

Last year, Florida annihilated Cincinnati 51-24—who ran the table, for the record. But Florida really quit after scoring a TD to make it 37-3 on their first drive of the second half.

Two years ago, it was Cincy again, falling 20-7 to Virginia Tech...

It just keeps going on and on and on.

Only two teams from the Big Least have ever won a BCS Bowl game: The two teams I mentioned at the top of the article.

Actually, a few other teams have won BCS games, too- but they are no longer in the conference. Why do you think that is?

Why do you think Miami begged the ACC to take them? Maybe because the Big East sucks?

Why do you think that Randy Edsall would leave his BCS Bowl team for Maryland, a middle of the pack ACC team? Maybe because UConn sucks?

Why do you think Brian Kelly would leave Cincy- who was one game away from a perfect season- just before facing Florida in the Sugar Bowl? Maybe because he knew they would get trounced?

There's one answer for all three of those questions, and it's very simple: The Big Least is a disgrace to college football.
