Rich Rodriguez Fired: Denard Robinson and Other Michigan Stars That May Transfer
According to reports Rich Rodriguez is out in Ann Arbor as Michigan's head coach.
Rodriguez's spread option offense differed greatly from the normal recruits Michigan would typically go after and as a result there should be at least a few notable personnel changes.
With Rodriguez gone, he leaves behind a roster that has quite a few players directly recruited to fit his system, including star quarterback and team MVP Denard Robinson.
Let's take a look at a few players who may transfer out of the Wolverine program.
7. Martavious Odoms
1 of 7
Odoms is a slot receiver who gained playing time under Rodriguez's system.
His size may result in a position change under the next coach, so he may look to leave.
6. Vincent Smith
2 of 7
Smith played the "superback" role in the spread option offense and at only 5-6, and 180 pounds, his role in a traditional offense may have a low ceiling.
A transfer to a school with a similar offense may be appealing now that Rodriguez is gone.
5. Christian Pace
3 of 7
Pace was an underrated center prospect out of high school who was recruited to Michigan since he had a smaller frame that fit the spread option's requirement of smaller, lighter linemen who could play in space.
At just 6-2 and 280 pounds, and only a freshman, Pace could be poised to bolt to a more system friendly offense for his size.
4. Terrence Robinson
4 of 7
Robinson was a coveted recruit out of high school and chose Michigan due to the offense that could exploit his strengths.
He may be a tweener type under the next coach's traditional offense between running back and receiver, and a transfer could be in order.
3. Jeremy Gallon
5 of 7
Gallon dazzled as a punt returner and slot receiver this past season for the maize and blue.
Yet, he's only 5-8 and only 190 pounds. The next coach at Michigan will likely want to go back to the David Terrell and Braylon Edwards type receivers, Gallon doesn't fit that mold.
2. Tate Forcier
6 of 7
Known for having a very quick release in the pocket, Forcier could want an even faster on out of Ann Arbor. Already academically inelgible, with Rodriguez out, Forcier will likely leave Michigan.
He could wind up at a FBS school or a program on the west coast.
1. Denard Robinson
7 of 7
There was a time, early in the season when Robinson was the clear cut front runner for the Heisman. An athletically gifted player, Robinson may be the fastest quarterback in the country and Rodriguez's system accented Robinson's strength as a player.
He likely won't be a fit for the new coach's offense, as the consensus is Michigan will go back to a traditional offensive philosophy..
