In the Hopman Cup, there was another day of exciting news with the Serbian team taking a second country down and the Belgian team making strides to break even. The Perth, Australia event is a great precursor to the Australian Open, which happens later this month.
In the Hopman Cup, Novak Djokovic beat Lleyton Hewitt 6-2, 6-4, helping to bring a 2-0 victory for Serbia over Australia. Fellow Serbian teammate, Ana Ivanovic beat Alicia Molik in straight sets – 6-4, 6-0 – despite having nearly injuring her left leg with an apparent;y near-overextension during the second set of the match. Serbia now leads their group with 2 wins.
The Belgian team of Ruben Bemelmans and Justine Henin beat the Kazakhstan team ofAndrey Golubev and Sesil Karatantcheva. Henin took on Karatantcheva, beating her 6-4, 6-3 and then left the 178-ranked Bemelmans to play against the 36 ranked Golubev, who he beat 6-4, 6-4. Together, the mixed doubles team from Belgium won with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(10-8), giving them a 3-0 of the Kazakhs.
