Alabama Football Recruiting: Tide 2010 Commits Show Their Skills in San Antonio
Tide commits and targets on hand at the Army All-American game are shinning, according to Rivals recruiting guru, Mike Farrell.
This includes the most recent commit, RB Demetrius Hart, along with LB Brent Calloway, WR Danny Woodson and QB Philip Ely.
Philip Ely is the shortest of the three quarterbacks on the roster, standing at 6'1". In addition, he is only 188 pounds, fresh out of the shower.
If he is to make it at the next level in the SEC, he will need to add at least 30 additional pounds.
According to scouts and coaches, he has the highest football IQ of the players on hand; he is also the most accurate passer of the South team quarterbacks.
Teddy Bridgewater is the most athletic, a true dual threat positon player and is the scheduled starter.
Jacoby Bissett (6'4" 220) is a physically imposing specimen and has the ability to make all the throws from the pocket. His positives include the ability to buy time in the pocket using his athleticism. On the downside, his throwing mechanics are inconsistent, often resorting to a low release.
All three of the quarterbacks from the east roster make their home in Florida.
Brent Calloway is considered one of the best and brightest athletes on the field. He will need to gain weight before starting at the next level but his frame allows room for adding muscle.
At 6'2" and 215 pounds, the five star linebacker is expected to have an impact on the outcome of the game.
In practice, Danny Woodson is off to a slow start, but he is amongst the most athletic of the receivers and has a great pair of hands. His route running is superb, but he does not seem to be having he impact that is expected of a athlete with his particular skill set.
Dee Hart took a little time getting used to the new turf, but once he became comfortable, he hit the ground running and cutting, making defenders miss time and time again. His ability to make things happen out in space is unmatched.
He has a great attitude and wants to make a significant contribution come game time. The coaches have been impressed with his work ethic and ability.
Cyrus Kouandijo is uncommitted but remains high on the list for Alabama. Alabama has a great chance of landing the massive offensive lineman from Hyattsville, MD in the next few weeks, if not sooner.
He presently holds more than 40 offers. His short list includes Alabama, Iowa, Miami, USC and New Mexico.
BTW, just noticed that Kouandijo is not on the Army All-American roster, he is listed on the roster for the Under Armor Game. Despite this oversight, I am going to leave him in the article since I had to spell his name and did so correctly.
He is the brother of Arie Kouandijo, an Alabama redshirt offensive lineman. Chances are good that he will commit to Alabama.
Tight end Nick O'Leary is another undecided recruit with Alabama on his radar. He holds over 30 scholarship offers, but has Alabama listed third behind Florida State and Miami.
If the utility of Preston Dial was any indication of how much the tight end means to the Alabama offense, this guy should be high on Alabama's list as well.
He is a very accomplished pass blocker and great at matching footwork with the defenders. He has good hands and speed that allows for him to separate from defenders. He is the grandson of golfer Jack Nicholas.
Undeclared offensive lineman, Antonio Richardson stands at 6'6" and weights 310 pounds. The Nashville prospect currently holds more than 20 offers and lists Alabama second on his preferred list, behind Tennessee.
Two big name defensive recruits are on the Alabama radar and have The Capstone listed as a school of high personal interest. This includes Atlanta, Georgia (Grady High School) defensive back, Damian Swann and defensive tackle Tim Jernigan out of Lake City, Florida.
Both players are exceptional athletes, but are undersized for their positions at the next level. A redshirt season blended with intense strength and condition will be necessary for these fellows if they intend to get onto the turf at Bryant-Denny by 2012.
Another uncommitted top recruit holding an offer from Alabama is Isaiah Crowell (5'11" 210 LB), from Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia.
Crowell has offers from 15 major D1 schools. His top considerations include Georgia, Auburn and Alabama. Seven SEC schools have offered this five star running back. Out of conference offers include Duke, USC, UNC, Cal and Clemson.
The Army All-American bowl is the premier high school football all-star game. Ten years running, the Army All-American alumni have made an impact on the professional football league.
Eight alumni from previous All-American rosters have been first round selections in the NFL draft and seven alumni have been chosen to play in the NFL Pro Bowl. Better than 90 alumni are currently playing in the NFL.
The Army All-American Bowl will be aired on NBC this Saturday. Kickoff is at 12:00 EST
Don't forget to watch the Under Armour All-Star game on Wednesday, January 5th. Alabama has seven commits participating in the game.
Players include safety Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, OLB Trey Dupriest, WR Bradley Sylve, WR Marvin Shinn, TE Malcolm Faciane, C Ryan Kelly and OLB Vinnie Sunseri. Alabama currently has 22 commitments for the 2010 class. Eleven of those are playing in the two premier all star games being held this week.
