WWE Dropped the Ball on Shelton Benjamin and Carlito
It’s been proved for the last 10 years or so that the WWE does not know how to recognize talent. They have released guys who could have been main event material if they knew how to write a decent storyline.
There were many guys that the WWE didn't do a good job with. The two that WWE dropped the ball on most were Shelton Benjamin and Carlito.
These two guys were receiving massive cheers from the crowd. Carlito was a heel, but was getting so much positive reaction that they turned him into a baby face, and to make matters worse they put Torrie Wilson as his manager. This made no sense because Carlito was already good on the mic, and Torrie Wilson is anything but a manager.
Carlito had Carlito’s Cabana and it was drawing heat and starting feuds, there was no reason to turn him baby face. The Cabana was a great segment. The WWE could have just allowed him to get more heat by fighting the WWE champion John Cena. Carlito even stated he prefers to be heel. Carlito even had the cool apple spit to the face.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Shelton Benjamin was a great physical athlete, and he always stole the show with his physical abilities. Shelton Benjamin defeated HHH and instantly became a crowd favorite. When Benjamin was the Intercontinental Champion the crowd loved him, He held the title for 90 days and after he lost it the WWE didn't’t know what to do with him.
Instead of having a main event feud, he had one great match with Shawn Michaels and that was the end of him for a while. The WWE could have had Shelton Benjamin vs. HBK and this could have elevated Benjamin to main event status but once again the WWE does not know how to recognize talent. This match could have been a passing of the torch.
Check out the second part of Michaels vs. Benjamin (listen to the crowd).
Now, the WWE is having a youth movement, but imagine how great the product would have been today if it allowed guys like Benjamin and Carlito to become champions.
