NFL Head Coaching Carousel: Eric Mangini, Tony Sparano Next To Go?
In week 17 of the NFL season, many head coaches are on the hot seat ( Eric Mangini, Jeff Fisher, etc) heading into the final game of the 2010-2011 season.
With half of the games done already, many fates of head coaches were decided after their final games today.
There were plenty of blowouts, a sign that teams could have waved the towel on their respective head coaches.
Who will stay around, and who will get canned? Here is an update of the big head coaching carousel around the NFL.

Chan Gailey
1 of 9
Speculation has been beginning to rise within the last few weeks of Chan Gailey, head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
With two straight blow out losses to end the season, many people believe Gailey should be canned as head coach.
However, one year is too soon to tell. Despite the last two games, the Buffalo Bills have been more competitive than most originally thought.
This project wouldn't be easy, and even owner Ralph Wilson has to realize it takes more than a year to see improvement.
Prediction: Gailey will return
Gary Kubiak
2 of 9
A few weeks ago it seemed very likely Gary Kubiak wouldn't return as Texans head coach.
This young Texans underachieved greatly, with the issues on defense headlining the struggles this team dealt with during the 2010-2011 season.
However, according to multiple reports, Kubiak will be retained as head coach for the 2011-2012 season.
Management believes Kubiak can make the appropriate changes on the defensive staff to improve one of the leagues worst defensive units.
The Texans don't intend on paying two coaches salaries next season as they hope Kubiak can put this team over the hump into the AFC playoffs.
Prediction: Status needs to be monitored, but it's likely Kubiak will return as head coach.
Jason Garrett/Leslie Frazier
3 of 9
The most popular head coaching candidates from the 2010 season will become the next coach of their respective teams.
Both Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys and Leslie Frazier will reportedly be named head coaches after the end of the season.
Their success in the regular season earned them the trust among the players and the owners themselves. We can erase these two teams off the list of head coaching vacancies.
Prediction: Both will be named head coach
Tom Coughlin
4 of 9
Arguably the coach on the biggest hot seat is Giants coach Tom Coughlin.
After the Giants collapse the last two weeks, there was even more reason to believe Coughlin would be canned in favor of a Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden.
However, many sources say Coughlin is going to return for another year. This is a Giants team that has dealt with plenty of injuries that they were unable to overcome.
Coughlin is liked by his players in the locker room, which is a good sign to see.
Whether the post-season is in the cards for the Giants, I get a feeling management will give Coughlin the benefit of the doubt and let him return.
Prediction: Coughlin will return, but still consider any possibility
Jeff Fisher
5 of 9
It seems likely that the longest tenured head coach in the NFL will move on to better things.
Jeff Fisher is one of the better coaches in football, but I can't see owner Bud Adams picking him over Vince Young.
Adams believes Young is the quarterback of this team, where Fisher would like to go in a different direction.
There are plenty of teams in need of a new coach who could be interested in Fisher. Don't be surprised to see a new coach roaming the Titans sideline next season.
Prediction: Jeff Fisher will be out as Titans head coach.
Tom Cable
6 of 9
The Oakland Raiders were one of the surprises of the 2010 season, sweeping the division and finishing at .500 for the best record in the last few seasons.
However, the speculation of Tom Cable continues to emerge after today's game, as multiple sources report that Cable is expected to be fired by Al Davis.
However, I am going to not be a full believer of the rumors coming from ESPN.com and other sites.
Last year, Cable was rumored to be fired after losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the last week of the season.
Nobody can ever predict the mind of Al Davis. If he does indeed fire Cable, it will most likely mean offensive coordinator Hue Jackson will take over. However until I see the change officially made, I am going to believe Cable will return next season after the improvement of the team.
Prediction: Cable will return one more season but don't rule out a change from Davis either.
Tony Sparano
7 of 9
The hot seat of Tony Sparano has gotten hotter in recent weeks, but not as much as other positions.
After Sunday's blowout loss to the Patriots, think again.
Dolphins ownership has been rumored to be disappointed in the performance of the team, and wants to bring a spark to the Dolphins that could compete with the excitement Miami Heat.
With potential head coaches such as Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden available, the 38-7 loss seems to be the final straw for Sparano in Miami.
Prediction: Sparano is fired
Eric Mangini
8 of 9
Coming into week 17 Eric Mangini was the coach that was most speculated to be out of a job come Monday.
Reports have come out that Mangini and president Mike Holmgren have shared many disagreements and Holmgren won't be looking to give Mangini another season.
After today's loss, Mangini's tenure as coach has likely near its end.
The Browns were embarrassed at home 41-9 to the rival Steelers, and finish with the same record as last season.
With Jon Gruden and John Fox among coaches being rumored for a potential Browns opening, another coaching change could be coming in Cleveland.
Prediction: Mangini will be out as Browns coach
Marvin Lewis
9 of 9
Out of all the coaches on the hot seat, Marvin Lewis is ready to pack his bags out of Cincinnati.
The Bengals underachieved under Lewis, who finished 4-12 after winning the AFC North last year.
In order for Lewis to return, he wants owner Mike Brown to make changes to both management and facilities.
With Brown's history as owner, it is unlikely he will live up to Lewis's promise.
Lewis has also been rumored to either becoming a defensive coordinator or possibly a college coach. Either way him being in Cincinnati next year is unlikely.
Prediction: Lewis will not return as head coach
