Liverpool Very Near To Signing Rennes Left Winger Sylvain Marveaux?
Roy Hodgson's Liverpool has now made it a habit of losing to clubs who haven't beaten us for at least 20 years or so. After the Blackpool debacle, others like Stoke and now Wolves have followed suit.
However, one news that should freshen up the fans is the fact that the Rennes mid-fielder Sylvain Marveaux, dubbed as the "New Malouda" was spotted at Anfield as a V.I.P. guest to watch the Reds take on Wolves.
After a few reports linking the player to Liverpool earlier this month, the recent turn of events may just add fuel to the story of Marveaux to Liverpool even more.

Although Liverpool have been linked with a host of players for the left wing position, the latest story of Marveaux seems to be a very plausible option. The Rennes player has played in a variety of mid-field roles for the French outfit but has been mainly used as an attacking player on the left wing in the recent past.
Judging Liverpool's abysmal wing-play, it is only realistic to think that Liverpool need re-enforcements in that area. A few other factors which may play in the Reds going for the player is the obvious Damien Comolli factor as well as the fact that Marveaux is currently serving his last year of contract with Rennes and should he be convinced to join Liverpool, the deal may go through with minimal cost.(reported to be 1.5m GBP!)
A few weeks earlier, when Liverpool FC' s principle owners decided to have a phone-in session live, they were exposed to a lot of flak from the fans with regards to the present Liverpool FC manager, Roy Hodgson. However, with just hours to go before the transfer window opens, any replacement seems unlikely, and the only logical thing that the owners may consider is to restrict the budget and not go splashing the cash for a manager who doesn't seem upto the mark.
Thus, although Liverpool may still look to bring in a striker, which will be relatively more expensive, the other probable signings if any may just be cheap buys and similar deals like those of Marveaux seems to be a good option especially considering that the player is only 24 years old!
Although it must be said that for an attacking player, a meagre scoring rate of one goal in almost every 10 matches don't really justify a huge potential. (Sylivain Marveaux : Goals 16, Appearances :102 for Rennes.) Although his form of late has been on the up, Liverpool fans will hope that if signed he doesn't really prove to be another one like Poulsen who has been an abject failure for the Reds after signing from the Juventus "reserves" last summer!
However links to Manchester United and Chelsea only in the summer window mitigates the foresaid fear factor to some extent.
Incidentally, Liverpool were linked with another Rennes player, Yann M'Vila before the story of this interest unfolded, and with Lucas and Spearing earning rave reviews from Hodgson, it may well seem that it was Marveaux and not M'Vila whom the Reds were tracing. Liverpool had earlier reportedly lost out on the signing of Asamoah Gyan, who also hailed from Rennes and chose another Premier League outfit in Sunderland instead.
