The Insight Bowl and the 10 Worst Bowl Games Remaining
Looking at the remaining bowl games, there are going to be a lot of stinkers before we finally get to the promising BCS bowl schedule.
A lot of these bowls involve teams that are either 6-6 or 7-5 and probably shouldn't be in bowl games, but that's the way it is in college football right now, so we as fans have to make the best of it.
Starting with tonight's Insight Bowl, here are the 10 worst bowl games remaining this college football season.
I think I speak for everyone when I say, "Bring on Auburn-Oregon!"
10. Insight Bowl: Missouri Tigers Vs. Iowa Hawkeyes
1 of 10
Is Iowa going to have enough players to field a team?
They’ve lost pretty much every offensive skill position player besides quarterback Ricky Stanzi.
But there’s still about seven hours until game time, so we’ll see if he’s suspended before kickoff.
If Mizzou doesn't win this game, it will be a huge setback for their program.
9. Texas Bowl: Illinois Fighting Illini Vs. Baylor Bears
2 of 10
A 6-6 Illinois team vs. a 7-5 Baylor team?
If I weren’t from Illinois, I wouldn’t care about this game at all.
It will be interesting to see the battle between Nathan Scheelhaase and Robert Griffin, two dual-threat QBs.
8. Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma Sooners Vs. Connecticut Huskies
3 of 10
Yes, Oklahoma struggles in big bowl games.
But against a team as weak as the UConn Huskies, it would appear that even Bob Stoops can’t blow this game.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time Oklahoma played shockingly bad in a big game.
7. Music City Bowl: North Carolina Tar Heels Vs. Tennessee Volunteers
4 of 10
Tennessee and North Carolina are two teams that are perennially disappointing.
Tennessee has been 6-6 for 10 years it seems.
North Carolina can’t keep its good players in line and on the field.
I certainly won’t be watching this game.
6. Liberty Bowl: UCF Knights Vs. Georgia Bulldogs
5 of 10
Even though Georgia doesn’t deserve to be in a bowl game, they are going to demolish UCF.
Georgia struggled in the SEC. UCF did well in the Conference USA.
I’d rather my team be the former.
5. Military Bowl: Maryland Terrapins Vs. East Carolina Pirates
6 of 10
I know the ACC isn’t great, but how does an 8-4 Maryland team end up against a team that ended up with a 6-6 record despite playing in Conference USA?
The Terrapins deserve better—not a lot better, but better.
But if Maryland is thinking the same way I am, don’t rule out an upset.
4. BBVA Compass Bowl: Kentucky Wildcats Vs. Pitt Panthers
7 of 10
I’ll never understand why there are so many meaningless bowl games between the Sugar Bowl on January 4 and the BCS Championship Game on January 10.
This matchup features another battle of disappointing power conference teams.
The only reason to watch is Pitt RB Dion Lewis, one of the better running backs in the country.
3. Holiday Bowl: Nebraska Cornhuskers Vs. Washington Huskies
8 of 10
I’m going to put Nebraska as 35-point favorites in this game.
Yes, Washington has Jake Locker, but he’s struggled this year.
Meanwhile, Nebraska has the best cornerback tandem in all of college football.
My prediction? Nebraska 38, Washington 0.
2. Pinstripe Bowl: Syracuse Orange Vs. Kansas State Wildcats
9 of 10
Kansas State vs. Syracuse may very well be the worst matchup of two teams from power conferences this bowl season.
You would think the Yankees could pay more money to get a better game in their stadium.
Of course, with the recent struggles at Syracuse, they are happy to be in a bowl game at all.
1. GoDaddy.com Bowl: Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders Vs. Miami (OH) RedHawks
10 of 10
Miami's coach has bolted for Pitt.
I would too if my bowl game was against Middle Tennessee.
I have no idea why the bowl schedulers would put a game featuring the MAC champion and the team that finished third in the Sun Belt in a bowl game on January 6.
If you will be watching this game, please leave a comment on this article and tell me why.
