College Football Recruiting 2011: The Hardest-Hitting Uncommitted Recruits
Many of the nation's top recruits have already committed, but there's still some solid talent available on both sides of the ball.
Our focus will be on the big hitters though, the prospects who can deliver a bone-crushing blow to their opponents and change the momentum of a game as a result.
Here are the hardest-hitting uncommitted prospects from the 2011 college football recruiting class.
7. Erique Florence, S
1 of 7
A top-five safety in the 2011 class, Florence is a very instinctual player who can really put a licking on a ball carrier.
He's got solid form when tackling and often angles himself for the big hit, which is probably the most noticeable part of his game.
Florence always finds himself around the ball and when it's in the air near him, he's trying to make a play on it every time.
6. Jermauria Rasco, DE
2 of 7
Rasco has improved tremendously every year, and that's something to take note of when looking at a prospect. He's an elite defensive end with a very high ceiling, and he's only getting better as he ages.
He's got great instincts and discipline, but his technique and movements are still on the raw side.
If he can learn to add some weapons to his arsenal and get off the ball quicker, he could end up being the best defensive end in the class.
5. Wayne Lyons, S
3 of 7
Lyons will need to work on his back pedal and man-to-man coverage skills, but the tools are there for him to develop into an outstanding playmaker.
He's got a great pair of hands and is a very smart football player who has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
He is a true quarterback of the secondary and will get his troops lined up quickly, calling out adjustments like someone born to play this position.
4. Lamar Dawson, LB
4 of 7
At 6'3" and 230 pounds, Dawson has ideal size for a middle linebacker, but it's his work ethic, aggressiveness, discipline and speed that really makes him an eye-popping talent.
If he was better against the pass, Dawson would be right up there with the elite linebackers of the 2011 class.
He's got the linebacker mentality that you love to see in a prospect. He'll bulldoze his way through the offense to get to the ball carrier, won't give up position or over-pursue and best of all, will lay his body on the line and allow a teammate to make the play.
3. Curtis Grant, LB
5 of 7
Grant plays like a professional, which is very impressive for someone his age.
He can play both inside and outside, reads plays and reacts very fast and can cover a whole bunch of ground as quickly as any linebacker prospect out there.
There are very few players who can defend the field from sideline to sideline as well as Grant can.
At 6'2", 234 lbs, he has the size to play a number of positions. But because of his ability to get in the backfield, as well as cover, he's best suited to be an outside linebacker.
2. Jadeveon Clowney, DE
6 of 7
At 6'5", 225 pounds, Clowney is an athletic freak and a playmaker in every sense of the word.
He gets into the backfield in a hurry, has great natural pass-rushing instincts and can chase down ball-carriers with his tremendous speed.
No matter where the ball goes, or where Clowney lines up, he can make something happen. There's game film of him chasing down wide receivers 20 yards down the field.
1. Tony Steward, LB
7 of 7
At 6'2" and 225 lbs, Steward is one of the most physically imposing prospects in the country.
The kid is built like a body builder, with hardly an ounce of fat. He's incredibly strong and is one of the most athletic prospects in the country at any position, let alone linebacker.
Based on the way he's built, and his natural ability to sniff out the football, Steward is likely to make a big impact as a freshman.
