Golden State Warriors: The One Trade That Would Make Them Playoff Bound

Kevin NesgodaDec 27, 2010

Originally, I was going to write about 10 trades that the Warriors could make to take them up to the next level and potentially push them over the top and slide into the playoffs and be extremely dangerous once they reached that next level.

To me, the Warriors are only missing a couple of pieces, and it can be done in one very highly improbably trade.

In this trade, the Warriors would send the Oklahoma City Thunder Vladimir Radmanovic and his expiring contract along with a future first rounder, hopefully Presti would take a second rounder, but the man is a miser of draft picks, while sending Andris Biedrins and the expiring contract of Brandan Wright to the Dallas Mavericks.

In return, the Warriors would receive Jeff Green and DJ White from Oklahoma City and Tyson Chandler from the Mavericks.

On paper, this adds 11 wins to the Warriors for the year which would put them right on the edge of playoff contention and probably could slide into the seventh or eighth seeds and be extremely dangerous.

The Warriors are the perfect team for Tyson Chandler and his garbage (in a good way) style of play.

Chandler is a center that was meant to run, cover the backs of so-so defenders and clean up the trash on the offensive end. You run down the checklist of what Tyson Chandler does well, and you can stick him as the starting center of the Warriors and just start putting checks on down the list.

Tyson Chandler is the big man that the Warriors have been missing since Wilt, and we know how many years ago that was. No one has come even close to being what they need in the center position.

Even though he’s a huge injury risk, Chandler is more than worth it. He will not put up Wilt numbers nor should he be expected to, but he’s going to do all those little things that you want.

DJ White is going to find a nice place on the bench and probably should only get an apartment that he can rent from to month. Wouldn’t count on making the Bay Area home.

Jeff Green on the other hand is a glue guy, team first and does all the little things that you ask for. You don’t need plays run for him, he’ll rebound, block a couple shots,  knock down a couple threes and play tough defense, at three positions if he must.

OKC shopped around the league like cake at a fat kid camp in the offseason, but no team bit on Presti’s alleged, ridiculous asking price (two first rounders and a role players). I like Uncle Jeff, but he’s not even close to that. Durant on the other hand would have pulled the trigger in a heartbeat for that deal. I would have even thrown in another first rounder and my current franchise player, unless it was Chris Paul, then OKC would have to settle for Trevor Ariza.

What? I think Russell Westbrook would love to play with Ariza more. Westbrook could be the alpha like he wants, and Ariza can rebound all his missed shots.

Green would be the perfect complement for the Warriors and could finally play his normal position (small forward) on a regular basis. Being the team first guy that he is, he’d probably be more than willing to come off the bench and win the sixth man of the year award.

I think that would be the perfect role for him to with this team. The Warriors need a legit scoring threat off the bench who can also play crunch time minutes and can be flexible enough to play multiple positions.

I like Dorell Wright, but he’s not as flexible as Green, but in the grand scheme of things, is a better starter for the team.

Adding Chandler and Green creates a lot of versatile lineup potential.

Small: Law, Curry, Ellis, Wright, Green

Big: Wright, Green, Udoh, Lee, Chandler

And the every night lineup: Curry, Ellis, Wright, Lee and Chandler

Plus with other guys like Lou Amundson, Reggie Williams, Acie Law and Jeff Green coming off the bench, there is just so much that can be done.

Sadly though, the Thunder and Mavs will hear this offer, have a hearty laugh and hang up the phone.

It’s fun to dream though.
