Manchester United Transfers: Sir Alex Gets £50M, Who Tops The Hitlist Now?

Maxx GDec 26, 2010

Yes, you heard it right. Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to get at least £50 million for transfers from the evers so-hated Manchester United owners—the Glazer Brothers. Though these talks had been held earlier, it seems that United's current reign of supremacy on the English Premier League will further add some sweetener for the Glazers to be happy and give money.

When Wayne Rooney talks were going through Old Trafford, Rooney signed a five-year contract with the club. Then after a number of transatlantic calls involving David Gills, the Glazers and Sir Alex revealed that the Red Devils boss is going to have a pretty good transfer kitty for next summer.

However, Sir Alex has plans of his own and may jump into a vulnerable fort to grab a golden boy at the moment. Yes, I am talking of the vulnerable Liverpool and its golden boy Pepe Reina.

Liverpool have so far been a shadow of its past self, putting in a string of inconsistent and below-average performances in the EPL thus far. Even the sacked, ex-hero manager Rafael Benitez could have done a more intelligent job than the present curse Roy Hodgson—where "intelligence" stands below zero for the latter.

So who wants to be with a fallen club? It is not long before the Reds stars will start looking for new pastures, and Fergie comes in his hunt.

Ferguson has long been looking for a strong replacement to his aging Goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar. Though he bought the Danish sensation Anders Lindegaard, it seems that Lindegaard will act as a back up only. So, the hunt for the main No. 1 is still on.

Recent rumors suggest that Fergie is going for Liverpool's goalie Pepe Reina who, at present, happens to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Luck could not earn him the number one place in Spain's international squad, as his mate Iker Casillas earnned that, and reports say that Reina is also unhappy with his present club and manager. A man of talents, Reina is known for his brilliant positioning, springing dives and super saves.

At 28, he has loads of experience, both Internationally and in the EPL, and seems to be the perfect replacement for Van Der Sar.

Reina will not come cheap though, as a price of about £20 million is going to be needed to bring him in. But if Manchester United is looking from a long-term point of view and for a world-class goalkeeper, then Reina surely fits for the "next big thing" at Old Trafford.

Recent reports say that United are also keeping track of David De Gea from Atletico Madrid—regarded as one of the most promising stars of the next generation. However, Ferguson may hold his hunt next summer, with his team already on the road to winning the EPL with style this season.

Along with that, the name that must be mentioned is the Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Rene Adler. This German international has made a strong name for himself with his fantastic goalkeeping abilities and has been a fan of Manchester United ever since his childhood.

Even Adler wants to sign a contract with his present club only on grounds of the provision that they will allow him to play for United,if anything in future arises like that. It seems that Adler tops the current hitlist of Sir Alex, with the goalkeeper's strong ambition to be a Red Devil.

Adler will also cost United something in the range of £20million.

While my vote goes for the young and passionate Rene Adler, whom do you think Manchester United should buy among these men?

Or do you think the Red Devils should buy someone else? Leave your comments as all your valuable insights are welcome here.
