Manchester United: Will David Beckham Return To Old Trafford?

Maxx GDec 21, 2010

Football's legend David Beckham has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. The recent rumors tell that Beckham is also going to be awarded a Knighthood in 2011.

While this has been a great, and one of the best, achievements for the soccer hero, the 35-year-old still feels that there is some way more to go. And that way can be to the Old Trafford, back to his stadium, back to his roots.

Beckham currently plays for LA Galaxy and after his return from the injury, the Galaxy management expects him to report to the preseason training in January, thus ignoring any moves for the star. However, Beckham made a speech on Sunday night that revealed his desire to live and play again in the English Premier League.

Beckham will not play a third springtime for the Italian giants AC Milan and has thus expressed a move to England this winter. He said he has missed playing in the EPL for so long since he left United to move to Real Madrid in 2003. Seven years have gone by, the right midfielder has become 35 years old, but still Beckham feels that he has enough life left in his 35-year-old legs to give a last shot at United.

While a move to EPL was already going in the rumors, and clubs like Blackburn Rovers were interested in bringing Beckham, the free kick specialist has made it clear that he will not play for any other club than Manchester United in England.

Beckham left United in a rather uneasy situation when matters between him and Sir Alex Ferguson became quite stretched. However, the relation showed signs of improvement once Beckham returned to play for AC Milan in Manchester and since then Beckham has always talked good about his former coach. "Scary in a good way" is what he refers to Fergie as and says that Fergie will be the best coach to him forever in football history.

A player like Beckham can do a magic with the dead ball and can inflict heavy damage too when it comes to crossing and giving the ball to the headers in the opponent's box. Though he is 35 and cannot provide the stamina of a 20-or 23-year old star, still, the comeback of Beckham to United is a great news for the United fans indeed.

The prospects of signing the ex-star or even loaning him are also not too bleak here. United has always been tracking and remaining in touch with their former star and Sir Alex has made signings before irrespective of age. Laurent Blanc made a move to United in 2001 when he was at 36 and Michael Owen made a move to United when his career was already in a twilight. So, will Fergie go and bring back the fan favorite once again?

Beckham hopes so, the one last hurrah at Manchester United. And I am hopeful too. What's your say?
