Saturday's Matchup from a Buckeye's Perspective

Austin ThomasSep 7, 2008

As an Ohio State fan, I will admit that I am scared about saturday's showdown versus USC in the City of Angels. Hey maybe we can get an angel to help us.

After watching USC's absolute demolition of Virginia and Mark Sanchez looking better than John David Booty, I started thinking that "hey we can still beat them, I mean OSU still beat YSU soundly and they will crush Ohio U even without Beanie."

Well looks like I was wrong.

I woke up Saturday afternoon, I'm a college student what can I say, I had 3 text messages on my phone, two from ESPN saying that OSU was down 7-6 after halftime and the other from my dad, explaining the current OSU situation. I got out of bed and watched the game, having to close my eyes after the bobbled snap for a TD. Then I saw Ray Small, my 2nd favorite Buckeye, run back a punt sealing the deal.

It was then that I realized that if Jim Tressel doesn't do anything to get them looking like the Buckeyes instead of, yes, the Suckeyes then we will be in a world of hurt on Saturday.

Through the scare, however, I saw some promise. USC now believes they will rip apart the Bucks. Hmm I think that sounds familiar, oh thats right that is what the '06 Bucks thoguht they would do to Florida.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not predicting an all out thrashing. In fact quite the opposite, we might be on the wrong side of a blowout.

Enough with the blabbing though, I think that it will be a very good game and the Bucks will come to play. This prediction is not coming from biased simply based on how Jim Tressel coaches and having Beanie Wells back. 17-14 Ohio State, that's what I'm going with for Saturday, in a very hard fought game by both teams. Defense will rule, and while USC has more depth at linebacker, Ohio State's seecondary will get it done. In the end the Buckeyes ability to run the ball will be just enough for them to get by, if they can convert TD's in the redzone, field goals won't cut it against USC.

Although I'm picking the Buckeyes in this game, I would not be at all surprised to see USC blow them out of the water. Even if Ohio State wins this game, USC is the more well-rounded team, the Bucks will win off of either a defensive touchdown or capitalizing on a USC turnover.

Good luck to USC and Ohio State, I truly hope that it is a good game, and may the best team win.
