College Football Recruiting 2011: The Top 10 Junior College Prospects
Many times, you see a college program sign a few junior college players for depth and more often than not, to provide immediate help.
The JC circuit is a great avenue for a college coach to find talent and experience for his football team, and many of those players are talented and just looking for a second chance to excel on and off the field.
Here are the top 10 JC prospects in the country this year.
10. Zach Mettenberger, QB, Butler County C.C. (Kansas)
1 of 10
Mettenberger signed with Georgia out of high school but was dismissed in his freshman season after a few off the field arrests.
6'5", 240 pounds, and blessed with a cannon arm, Mettenberger has developed his skill set at the JC level.
He will return to the SEC as a LSU Tiger next season.
9. Aaron Harris, RB, Southwestern C.C. (California)
2 of 10
Running back transfers are just like running backs drafted in the NFL draft; they have the easiest time making the transition to the college level.
Aaron Harris will look to prove that mantra true yet again, as the 5'10", 200 pound rock toter holds offers from San Diego State, Hawai'i and Cincinnati.
8. Leon Mackey, DE, Hinds C.C. (Mississippi)
3 of 10
Mackey is a 6'5", 260 pound edge rusher who has terrorized JC offensive linemen.
They are happy to see that he aims to leave the JC ranks for the major Division I frame, as he is looking at South Carolina, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Alabama, and Houston among a hoard of schools.
7. Johnathan Jenkins, DT, Gulf Coast C.C. (Mississippi)
4 of 10
Jenkins is a 6'4", 340 pound space eater. He seems to be a perfect fit for the nose tackle position, as he has the strength to control the interior defensive front.
He's been committed to Oklahoma State, but has been rumored to be considering Georgia, Connecticut, and Auburn. Stay tuned.
6. Lavelle Lincome, DE, East LA College (California)
5 of 10
Lincome is a defensive end who can stop the run on his way to the quarterback.
6'4" and 275 pounds, look for Lincome to also be used as a defensive tackle in sub packages. He has offers from both Miami and Texas Tech
5. Anthony Denham, WR, East LA College (California)
6 of 10
Next on our list is Lincome's teammate at ELA CC, Anthony Denham, a 6'6" and 215 pound play maker.
Denham is comparable to New York Giants' receiver Ramses Barden and boasts offers from the likes of Oregon, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Utah, Minnesota, and Nebraska, among an array of others.
4. Jacob Fahrenkrug, OL, North Dakota State College Of Science (ND)
7 of 10
Fahrenkrug is a 6'4", 320 pound road grader who can play tackle or guard.
Blessed with a good combo of strength and athleticism, Fahrenkrug was highly sought after, with Florida State winning out for his services.
3. Sheldon Richardson, DT, College Of The Sequoias (California)
8 of 10
Say what you want about the way Richardson has handled his recruitment, he's a dominant football player.
Committing to Missouri out of high school and then to USC a few weeks ago may have angered some Tiger fans, but the 6'4", 290 pound versatile defensive lineman has since chosen to stick with Mizzou as per the original plan.
2. Cornelius Carradine, DE, Butler County C.C. (Kansas)
9 of 10
A 6'5", 245 pound monster, Carradine has a premier burst off the edge and a great ability to finish on quarterbacks for game changing sacks.
He's an imposing figure who will have some great one on one battles in future practices with Jacob Fahrenkrug, as he will follow the big offensive lineman to Tallahassee to play at Florida State.
1. Jesse Williams, DT, Arizona Western C.C. (Arizona)
10 of 10
In an amazing class of defensive line prospects this year at the JC level, Williams takes the spot as top dog.
6'4", 330 pounds, Williams has been recorded to bench press 550 pounds. An avid weightlifter, Williams looks like a linebacker from afar and plays with great agility, strength, pad level, and quickness.
He can play any position along the defensive line and will do so at Alabama.
