LSU Football Recruiting 2011: The Tigers' Top Remaining Uncommitted Targets
Louisiana State has a long-standing issues with stretching itself too thin on the recruiting front with simply too many scholarship offers.
Every year it seems the program is banking on decommitment and players who fail to qualify academically.
Things will be no different in 2011, but the Tigers aren't backing down. They still have their eye on some top talent and are going after it hard.
Here are LSU's top remaining uncommitted recruiting targets.
LSU's Current 2011 Recruiting Class
1 of 5
5-Star Commitments: 2
4-Star Commitments: 5
3-Star Commitments: 10
LSU really should have five 5-star talents because receiver Jarvis Landry, running back Kenny Hilliard and outside linebacker Trevon Randle are disrespected by not receiving another star.
WIth La'El Collins, who's at worst the second-best offensive tackle in the class, and defensive tackle Anthony Johnson rated top five at his position, the Tigers have the makings of a very well-rounded and extremely high-potential class.
La'El Collins and Jeremy Hill
2 of 5
Collins might be committed to LSU, but he's been wavering lately and a recent trip to Auburn has him closer to the other side of the fence than ever.
He and high school teammate Jeremy Hill, who decommitted from LSU in November, are both said to be very interested in the other Tigers and it wouldn't be surprising to see one or both of them commit to Auburn.
One of LSU's first recruiting priorities needs to be convincing Collins not to leave and getting Hill to come back.
Ray Drew, DE
3 of 5
Drew isn't the type of player you need to worry about causing problems off the field. He's a hard-worker, a vocal player and a natural leader.
A top five defensive end, he'll step in from day one and grind it out at 100 percent from the the minute the whistle is blown until the end of the day.
Drew has already taken official visits to Auburn, LSU and Georgia. Those are the three to keep your eye on, but realistically it could be any of them at this point.
Jermauria Rasco, DE
4 of 5
Rasco has improved tremendously every year and that's something to take note of when looking at a prospect. He's an elite defensive end with a very high ceiling and he's only getting better as he ages.
He's got great instincts and discipline, but his technique and movements are still on the raw side. If he can learn to add some weapons to his arsenal and get off the ball quicker, he could end up being the best defensive end in the class.
Most Louisiana boys stay at home, but Rasco is being pursued by everyone and Alabama, FSU and Texas should worry LSU fans right now.
Tim Jernigan, DT
5 of 5
At 6'2", 275 lbs, Jernigan is an athletic big man who moves extremely well for his size and can get into the backfield in a hurry.
He has all the tools to become an elite college defensive lineman. He's strong, stays low to the ground, drives with his legs, and has a relentless motor. There's no wonder he's the top-rated defensive tackle in the country.
Florida was the team to beat before Urban Meyer left town, but now Jernigan's focus appears to be on Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Michigan.
