Dave's IMO: Naughty or Nice Edition
David ThurmanDec 21, 2010
With Christmas only four days away, TSB decided to help out St. Nick with a brief list of people who deserve a little extra or nothing at all.
Naughty:
1) Duron Carter
What a shame to be born with such unique gifts and have a famous father to boot, but throw it all away by failing to take care of business in the classroom. If Santa can't give him a work ethic then how about a lump of coal.
2) Jim Delany
2) Jim Delany
The commish of the best conference in the NCAA (top to bottom, all sports considered) just never looks impressive in front of the camera. He did oversee the "acquisition" of Nebraska, so I'll give him that. But any credit he received from that move went out the window with the ridiculous division names and choice of a graphic that looks like it was designed by an elementary school student.
3) Urban Meyer
3) Urban Meyer
What a joke. He quits, comes back, talks a bunch of kids into signing with lies and promises he didn't intend to keep and then quits again. I can only imagine what Sharrif Floyd would look like in scarlet and gray, which probably would have happened without Meyer's shenanigans. Maybe Santa can give him a conscience.
4) The NCAA and the Newton family
Once again the NCAA comes off looking dirty, and you wonder how this whole saga will play out. Cecil Newton obviously looked to capitalize on his son's talents, and I have a hard time believing Cam is innocent in the whole affair. One thing is for sure--his track record in the classroom isn't good, although I am sure Auburn would never look the other way! Just how much sleazier can the SEC get? Old St. Nick can cross a whole bunch of people off his list at once due to this sordid affair.
5) Marcus Hall
I'm still not sure what the big guy did, but it wasn't good. Hopefully he'll be back in a big way next year, and can make his way to the "nice" list!
6) Mark May
6) Mark May
As long as I live May will be on this list. He is a pompous idiot and I am being polite. Hopefully Santa will load his stocking with some of the crap he is so full of on a consistent basis!
Nice:
1) Jonathan Hankins
Not only was the big guy a positive surprise this year, but he has a frame that jolly old St. Nick has to admire. I say load him up with goodies--but make them sugar free.
2) Boom Herron
2) Boom Herron
I love this kid's work ethic and attitude, and he had a whale of a year for the Buckeyes. With all the depth at tailback Herron will be pushed in 2011, but he deserves some nice things under the tree this year for sure.
3) Jared Sullinger
3) Jared Sullinger
Wow! What a start to his freshman (and only) season. I knew he was good, but had no idea he would dominate in the fashion in which he has thus far. His play is reminiscent of Michael Beasley at Kansas State in 2007-08 and Kevin Durant at Texas the previous year. And unlike those guys, he has a good supporting cast.
4) Tyler Moeller
4) Tyler Moeller
I love how Moeller worked his way back after misfortune and was on his was to an All-Big Ten season before he was injured against Illinois. Santa might want to give him a dose of good luck and good health for 2011.
5) Braxton Miller
5) Braxton Miller
One of the top high school players in the state of Ohio and the nation, Miller pledged his loyalty to OSU early on, and has helped the coaching staff assemble a great recruiting class.
6) Jim Tressel
6) Jim Tressel
Six straight Big Ten titles, more success than any other coach in the past decade and a nice guy to boot. He already has plenty of money, so maybe Santa can give him the health and energy to stay another ten years (or longer).
