Arsenal January Transfer Prospects: Should Wenger Target Charles N'Zogbia

Callum D'SouzaDec 17, 2010

The January Transfer is quietly approaching and with it will come a whirlwind of rumours, transfers and conspiracy. Arsenal will undoubtedly be in the thick of January transfer action but, contrary to most seasons, little will actually materialize.

Manager Arsene Wenger has repeatedly dismissed claims of new arrivals in January, claiming his squad is sufficient enough and boasts the depth and stability to conquer in England and Europe. The Gunners currently are enjoying a strong season, despite a few hiccups.

The North London giants sit second on the English Premier League table with 32 points, two behind leaders Manchester United. However with matches against Stoke City and rivals Chelsea and Wigan before the year is out, things could easily falter for Wenger and his men.

Despite Wenger's words, there is every chance the Frenchman will in fact secure the services of a player. Be it a renowned quality or an unknown youth, Arsenal's tactician has money to spend and, should chances arise, there is no reason why Arsene won't pounce.

One player whose efforts have gone unnoticed this season due to his team's lackluster performances is Wigan Athletic's Charles N'Zogbia. The French midfielder has been a glistening bright light in a struggling season for the Latics and it's only time before bigger clubs come chasing.

Boasting 16 appearances and four goals for Roberto Martinez this term, N'Zogbia has been rampant with displays of excellent pace, balance and a vicious shot. Wigan is currently lavish in the relegation zone of the EPL table; at 18th, the Latics have 16 points and three wins.

Wigan are touted to finish the season relegated and one can be certain that a number of clubs would be keen to entice N'Zogbia with the prospects of consistent wins, better opportunities for trophies and international recognition.

Arsenal is a club well-suited to the speed, movement and style of the 24-year-old, and the Frenchman is well within the Gunners' price range. The former Newcastle star has expressed his desire to play for Arsenal and was highly touted with a move to North London two seasons ago.

The French international would ensure extra depth in both the wing and defensive flank departments as well as ensuring Andrei Arshavin has heavy pressure to perform consistently on the left wing. N'Zogbia can also patrol in the central midfield areas, enabling greater depth come the injury blows.

Time will tell what is to occur for Wigan, Arsenal and Charles N'Zogbia's future, but there's no denying the French dynamo is up for grabs.
