USC Football Recruiting: Another Day, Another Verbal Commitment

Rick McMahanDec 16, 2010

If people thought that the recent news of the early departures of Tyron Smith and Jurrel Casey to the NFL coupled with the de-commitment of five-star JC defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson would get Lane Kiffin and the USC coaching staff down, they were sorely mistaken.

Okay, maybe Kiffin and company were bummed, but apparently it hasn't gotten in the way of taking care of recruiting business.

Searching high and low for diamonds in the rough, the Trojans effort paid off in a verbal from Chaffey JC linebacker, Dallas Kelley.

Kelley, who led Chaffey in tackles this year, also had 13.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.

For his efforts, Kelley was named first team all conference.

In Kelley, the Trojans get a big (6'0", 227 lbs.) and fast (4.56 forty) linebacker who has an uncanny knack for the ball.

For those who follow high school recruiting, these are heady times.

With the LOI signing day looming in the near distance, news on the recruiting front is coming fast and furious.

But for those who follow the Trojans, there is barely time to catch your breath before fresh news of signings land at your door.

After a disappointing season for the Trojans this year, Lane Kiffin lamented a lack of depth and promised to do something about it.

Boy, he wasn't kidding.
