4-Star Athlete Christian French Commits To Oregon Over Notre Dame and Iowa

Michael PintoDec 9, 2010

On Thursday, highly-touted athlete Christian French committed to Oregon over Notre Dame and Iowa.

The Iowa native was believed to have favored the in-state Hawkeyes, but Oregon's stellar season and high-powered offensive system were likely too much to turn away from.

French is one of the top athletes in the 2011 recruiting class and has the potential to play on either side of the ball, though it appears his future is brighter on offense.

He's an extremely versatile play-maker who lines up at tight end and defensive end in high school, but at 6'6" and 235 lbs, he's got all the intangibles to be an very tough cover at the tight end position in the next level and could potentially shine in Oregon's offense.

Though the majority of his production came on defense last season, he's displayed excellent potential as a tight end and has really grown into the role throughout his senior season.

It's not out of the question that French is utilized on defense as well, but there's good reason to believe he'll quickly settle into a home at tight end.

He joins a class that is quickly rising up the rankings with 5-star middle linebacker Anthony Wallace, 4-star cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu and 4-star defensive tackle Jared Ebert all committing to Oregon in the last 30 days.

With the Ducks having the chance to win it's first national championship with one of most prolific offenses in history, Oregon has the shot to pull in some really talented prospects, including No. 1 ranked wide receiver George Farmer.

Farmer is heavily leaning toward USC, but Oregon has been creeping into the picture and while a month ago it would've been shocking to see him sign with anyone but the Trojans, it wouldn't be too surprising at this point.
