Gambling On The Games: NCAA Football Week Two
Last week wasn't a bad opener. Better then bumbling Dave Wannstedt's anyway.
And I missed by not betting against Wannie who is notorious for his ability to screw up promising programs, whether in the pros or colleges, seasons early in the campaign.
Last Week:
The Good
Northwestern smoked horrible Syracuse for an easy plus 2 units.
East Carolina won outright over VA Tech plus 2 units.
Alabama easily caged the highly overrated Clemson Tigers plus 2 units.
Fresno State won outright over an uninspired Rutgers squad. Plus 3 units
The Michigan Utah game went over plus 1 unit.
The Bad:
Michigan showed its talent is not yet a match for its new coaches offense as it dropped its home opener for the second year in a row. Minus 2 units.
The Black Shirts of Nebraska whacked the MAC. Western Michigan minus two units.
That leaves a plus six units. Should of fired higher, the cry of every winning better.
Lets leap into week two.
This weeks card is weak. Not a lot of games I like so striving for discipline I shall step back gingerly.
Akron Zips plus 4 1/2 at the Syracuse Orange. The Carrier Dome used to be a great home field advantage. Not anymore expect boo's and silence. Some Sharks have a theory to bet on the fade, that is bet against a program or a team that is clearly fading every week, no matter the spread, until they prove they can cover.
We follow the fade. The Cuse is uninspired, poorly coached, and lacking talent. The Zips hung with Wisconsin.
Akron 28-19 for two units.
Buffalo plus 13 1/2 at the Pitt Panthers. Pitts young QB looks incompetent, teams are stacked to stop the run and Wannie finds ways to lose. The line is rising. Why not take two TD's against Wannie?
Buffalo 27 Pitt 26 for one unit
Miami Hurricanes plus 21 1/2 at Florida. 21 and the hook? Bad weather? Hated rivals? All the Cane fans bragging about their speed. Okay I'm a sucker for the hook..
Florida 38 Miami 31 for one unit
The token total play...
Notre Dame and Sand Diego State. Chuck Long looked out of his league coaching SD State last week. Look for Charlie Weis to try to run it up in his hyped home opener.
ND 39-17
Over 42 1/2 for one unit
Not much to like this week so we fire a few cautious jabs and look to next week s better slate.
Good luck and Happy Hunting....
And roll dem bones to feed that jones...
