Bowl Projections: Which 10 Bowls Will Feature a Team That Feels Short-Changed?
Now that we only have one weekend left of the regular season, we all start to wonder about where our favorite college teams will be going bowling. Just like every year in this current system, there are teams that feel short changed when they find out what bowl they are going to.
Some teams will have some complaints when they find out that they are going to a bowl game that just isn't what they wanted. At least they are bowling though, unlike my Purdue Boilermakers.
Here are 10 Bowl games that feature a team that feels short changed.
Orange Bowl: Stanford vs. Virginia Tech
1 of 10
Standford ended the regular season with a record of 11-1 including an 8-1 record in conference play. Not only did they finish second in the Pac-10, but they finished ranked sixth in the nation.
Stanford's only loss this season came to the Oregon Ducks, and they were outplayed, but matched up well with the Ducks. Stanford had hopes of going to the national championship game, but if Oregon and Auburn both win this weekend, it looks as though those hopes will be dashed.
Cotton Bowl: Oklahoma State vs. Alabama
2 of 10
Both of these teams are disappointed with the results of their season. Alabama finished the season with loss in the Iron Bowl to the top ranked Auburn Tigers. They finish the season 8-3 and ranked 16 in the BCS standings. For a team that was looking to repeat as national champions this is a disappointing result.
Oklahoma State finished the season with a tough loss against rival Oklahoma. The Cowboys finished the season with a record of 10-2. It turned out being a successful season for the Cowboys but still disappointing not to get into a BCS game
Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: Boise State vs. Boston College
3 of 10
This is devastating for the Bronco's as they recently lost in overtime against Nevada. Although Nevada is a respectable team, Boise still had a shot at winning the game and proving that they were the real deal in football.
It however did not work out this way for Boise State. Lucky for them, they will be able to be in a conference that has a BCS automatic berth next season. Either way, with one loss all season, it surely is a disappointment the Broncos aren't in a BCS game.
Sun Bowl: Miami vs. Toledo
4 of 10
Miami came into the season with really high hopes hoping to win the ACC and maybe even contend for a national title. It all came crashing down, as they had trouble on both sides of the ball.
They just were not able to get anything done consistently and ultimately led to the firing of their head coach. While Miami is looking to rebuild a program, they are looking for an easy win in the Sun Bowl against Toledo.
The Rose Bowl: TCU vs. Wisconsin
5 of 10
These are two of the most explosive offenses in the nation. Wisconsin even put up over 80 points on a conference opponent earlier in the year.
TCU is the one really getting put to the screws in this one. They have been undefeated this year, and will once again have to settle for third place in the BCS, which gets them no where close to the national championship game. Unless TCU gets lucky and either Oregon or Auburn loses this weekend, they will be stuck playing the Badgers in the tournament of roses.
Ticket City Bowl: Northwestern vs. Texas Tech
6 of 10
Both of these teams have had somewhat of disspointing seasons but not because of BCS standings.
Northwestern had injury problems losing their great senior quarterback Dan Persia to injury earlier in the season which really diminished their hopes at a good bowl game.
Chick-Fil-A Bowl: Mississippi State vs. Florida State
7 of 10
This would actually be a great game, but Florida State is going to end up getting the screws in this one. Although many think they are better or just as good as Virginia Tech, Virginia Tech should beat them in the ACC championship game.
This will lead to an automatic berth for the Hockies and leave the Seminoles out to dry. This is just another flaw in the BCS system.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: UConn vs. Oklahoma
8 of 10
Okay so neither of these teams will be complaining about the selection for this bowl, but I know a lot of fans will be.
The Big East does not deserve a bid this season. They have not had a team ranked in the top 25 in weeks and are just downright awful this season. The BCS needs to look into making some kind of rule that would take away an automatic berth from a down conference like the Big East is this season.
It's just downright awful and not fair at all to the other teams who deserve to actually be in the BCS.
Gator Bowl: Iowa vs. Florida
9 of 10
Both of these teams came into this season with high hopes of making a BCS performance but really underperformed this season. Florida was just plain awful, while Iowa was held together by their defense.
Although these teams may not be all that great this should be a great game and match-up for both teams.
Capital One Bowl: Michigan State vs. LSU
10 of 10
These two teams are the biggest losers this season from the BCS system.
Michigan State just plain out got screwed over by the system this season. They won the Big Ten just as Wisconsin, and Ohio State did, but because they are ranked lower in the BCS standings by one spot, they lose the opportunity to play in a BCS game.
The same goes with LSU. Although they didn't win the conference, they were still a great team and deserved to be in the BCS.
The bottom line is the BCS needs to go. All for the play off say I! I!!!
